Owner description: Garnish Island (Ilnacullin Garinish or Garnish) is located in the sheltered harbour of Glengarriff in Bantry Bay, in Southwest Ireland. Garnish is world renowned for its gardens which are laid out in beautiful walks and it has some stunning specimen plants which are rare in this climate.

The trip out and back to Garinish, at least in July, was worth it just for the seal watching. The captain took us gently around the rocky spots where a number of seals were relaxing after a hearty breakfast. We were told that since the bay is used mostly for mussel farming, the locals don't worry too much about the seals eating the fish, so they are thriving here. The island itself is beautifully gardened. Wear good shoes, as it requires walking. There is an old tower you can climb, after climbing lots of steps to get up to it. Worth it for the view!

Garnish Island is well worth the trip, the scenery is amazing. The boat trip is worth the journey. Wear walking shoes as there is a lot to see and a lot of ground to cover. The caretakers of the island do a fantastic job....

Garnish Island is a must if you visit Glangarriff, The Island is accessed vie a ferry and is maintained by the Irish government having been left to the nation. It is bountifully in the range of plants, trees and flowers that change throughout the year. Each area of the island is different and the views of the surrounding countryside are breath taking.
It can however become a little busy with foreign tourists as it is on most coach operators itineraries, however there are plenty of quite parts to this wonderful island. The café also serves excellent light meals and drinks.

This island is so beautiful. We read about it in our travel guid and thought that it sounds interesting, but we didn't expect that much. But it is really worth a trip! The gardens are great, there are lot's of different, very colorful flowers, but the best thing is the smell!! This mixture of european wood, tropical flowers and the sea is amazing!! And on the short boat trip you get to see seals :) so great!
