Owner description: Garnish Island (Ilnacullin Garinish or Garnish) is located in the sheltered harbour of Glengarriff in Bantry Bay, in Southwest Ireland. Garnish is world renowned for its gardens which are laid out in beautiful walks and it has some stunning specimen plants which are rare in this climate.

My hubbie myself and our two boys visited garinish island a couple of weeks ago..and all of us found something that we individually loved. the boat ride, the seals on the rocks, the Italian villa, the microclimate, everything, really do recommend it for an afternoon out. Bring the picnic and sit out on the lawn and enjoy.

I really do not understand why people are positive about this place. There is a nice ferry crossing of 10 minutes at €10 where you see seals and then another €4 to enter the so-called gardens. I am prerry sure that I have seen only a handful of flowers. All the rest is trees. Landscaping is not well done and garden overall is poorly maintained - maybe there is a new owner??

starting off with a short ride on the blue pool ferry, a look around seal island with the seals sunning themselves, and on to garnish island. nothing but beautifull sceneary and an abundance of flowers & shrubs , sun shining down ,shur it was like paradise.
if you do nothing else in ireland ,make sure you visit glengarriff & garnish island

I first landed on Garnish 40 years ago and it was a very beautiful place.Since then I have visited on numerous occasions, but alas the place seems to be deteriorating somewhat in recent times. In view of the number of visitors who travel there and pay 4 euro entry nothing much seems to be done there.Paths could be inproved and a lot of the areas are over grown. It certainly looked a lot better all those years ago.The tea shop is fairly basic but the staff there make up for it with their friendliness.

Pretty disappointed on the occasion I went. Yes the setting in the bay is magnificent and arguably the boat trip over with the seals is the highlight. The flora interesting, but the public areas looked unkempt and scruffy with weeks/long grass growing in the beds. Like every other tourist attraction in Ireland you are expected to pay through the nose but obviously very little of that money goes into maintaining the place. My garden is in better shape. Disappointing.
