We stumbled upon this gem on our drive around the Ring of Kerry - best room we have ever had! Amazing 'bump out' sitting area gives you a fantastic 180 degree view of the mountains and ocean - you can even hear the ocean! If the view was not enough, also have a fireplace, and marble bathroom with heated flooring & towel racks, soaking tub, marble shower....and all for an amazing low price. Ask for the rooms that end with x10, x11, or x12 - you won't regret it!

We have just returned from a week long trip to waterville having stayed in the Butler after a gap of 5 years.
It has definitely improved over the years and there is evidence of ongoing improvement .

Rooms overlooking the bay are the ones to request as the view is lovely. The hotel bars are lively and good fun .Breakfast is fine with very efficient friendly service provided by Eugene The desk staff are all good with a cheery smile.
Bedrooms (superior) are a good size with tv radio etc.

If all you want is a base to do the ring of Kerry or play golf at the truly stunning Waterville links this is it .

Room Tip: Room 508 The Best

A great stop for any traveller and any occasion. It is not the four seasons or Sheen Falls but it very good for an old hotel. The staff and food are excellent and the prices are good. The food in the bar is excellent and there are some nice spacious lounges. It is just across the road from some great bars and the beach is just yards away.

It is well located, reasonably priced, clean, and provides excellent services. I'd recommend it for families, honeymooners, and geezers like my wife and I. There are many areas that are suitable for sitting in front of a fire with a cognac, playing pool, having a drink, and eating a very nice meal.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.

Seven golfers and myself stayed here for three nights April 2013. The rooms were very nice....clean, comfortable and very well appointed. We all enjoyed the rooms!

The food in the bar/restaurant was very good as was the breakfast. Louise (the owner) was extremely nice and helpful in every regard. She was a lovely young lady that did everything to make everyone of us enjoy our stay...

The only problem I had was that my room had a fireplace and one night we were there the wind was 60 to 80 miles per hour. The wind made a lot of noise and I had to back the couch up against the fireplace to eliminate the excessive noise...this situation was extremely rare and I would not hold this against the hotel...as it is a pleasant place to stay.....

I would recommend this Hotel to a friend without question....Mike O.

Room Tip: Get a room with an ocean view...I had one and the view was impressivie......enjoyable...

About a dozen of us stopped here at The Butler arms, midway on a day cycling the Ring of Kerry, wanting a good decent lunch. And that's what we got. We sat outside by our bikes and ordered. The staff were friendly and brought our drinks out quickly. When the food arrived shortly afterwards, we were not dissapointed. I had seafood chowder and a toasted ham & cheese sandwich. The chowder was delicious, and a good decent serving too. The toasted sandwich was, as expected, standard fare, no complaints. After 90km cycling, and another 90 to go, I left fully refuelled and in good spirits, and wanting to return some day to explore more about the Charlie Chaplin link with the hotel!

The hotel had just re-opened after their extended winter break. A friendly welcome made all the more so as we were upgraded to junior suites. Terrific views across the bay-day one superb spring weather but sadly the rain did begin to fall. Personally I love watching the mist descend and the greyness too and my stay wasn't spoiled by the lack of sunshine. Breakfasts really were excellent and supper in the bar on two nights was decent...with a good Spanish red on offer by the glass as well as Guinness. Our two rooms were huge - such a treat to have a sofa and a marble effect bathroom. Really comfortable beds. I do wish it was standard to have a kettle in the room-more important to me than the discreetly hidden ironing board! Tea and coffee were served in the comfortable lounge whenever we asked to be fair. For two nights we were the only guests and we would have welcomed a bit more atmosphere and craic in the hotel. The bar was very friendly. We're assured the place is busier in summer when dinners are served in the sizeable restaurant and the bright conservatory. We did enjoy ourselves and had a good deal. We 'd definitely come back as there's so much more to explore in the Ring of Kerry than we could manage on this trip.
