My husband and I spotted is delightful place while sightseeing. We had the lunch special of soup plus filled pita pocket with coffee, the food was delicious, tasty and filling. We also had a cake each - yummy. It is quite a busy little place with all sorta of organic type food to buy ie coconut oil, coffee etc. well worth a visit for morning te! Afternoon tea or lunch. Not sue I'd they do dinner.

“An Emerald in the Rough”
Reviewed August 24, 2014

We've been travel around Ireland, and as I mentioned to our wonderful hostess/waitress, if I ever moved to Ireland (from the states) it would be for the finest coffee I've ever had, the most delicious brown breads in the world, and the most hearty meals that are not only tasty but will last you the day! The Bastion Kitchen in Athlone gets top scores on all these notables. It was a gem. If I lived here this would be a daily stop, and not only for the wholesome tastes, but for the flavor of the atmosphere and most certainly, for helping me to stay healthy. Thank you & slainte!

“Pure Delight”
Reviewed August 20, 2014

Fresh ingredients, positive atmosphere, endearing staff. They really seemed to take pride in their food and it tasted so. Some tricky dishes (Chili, salad mixes) were near perfection. It's a small eatery, so we happened to hit it right, otherwise our table of 5 would have been difficult to accommodate. But, the tight cafe environs made it all the more down to earth. Excellent cup of coffee too.

“Excellent Food, Excellent Service”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

Lovely Cafe located in the west side of the town. The lunches are excellent and very healthy. I had the Avocado Salad which was fab followed by Rhubarb Crumble which was amazing. The food was freshly prepared and the sweet treats were all home made. Excellent value for money. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. I would definitely recommend and I will be returning.

“Tasty and Healthy”
Reviewed August 14, 2014

This is a lovely little gem of a cafe on the West Bank of the Shannon. The lunches are lovely from very healthy to very tasty. The cakes are excellent too. The coffee cake is second to none. The coffee is top quality and competitively priced too.

It doesn't stop there either, there is a health store section in attached to it too if you are inspired to cook a healthy meal at home.

The staff are nice and helpful too. Well worth a visit.
