“Lovely riverside location”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

I have attended business conferences at this hotel for the past 3 years and would have no hesitation in recommending it. The rooms are immaculate and particularly nice if you get a verandah overlooking the Shannon. Beautiful food and excellent conference facilities. Only slight gripes would be that the leisure centre is fairly limited and there is a bottle storage area beside the conference room which can create some noise. But overall a lovely classy hotel in a convenient central location.

Room Tip: If at all possible get a room overlooking the river.

Myself and five fiends spent Saturday night at the Raddisson. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone... would suit all ages and any occasion. The location as perfect and on the river.. food and serves is very good... but the staff are a credit to the hotel .... Paul the manager could of done more for us... We were all impressed with his manner!!!! The only thing i would say is the Bar needs maybe one more member of staff at the weekend ... Sunday morning there was one girl that i could see behind the bar and she was run off her feet but very good at getting everyone sorted!!!

We stayed here last on a Friday night and so paid a premium for the privilege.
Location is fantastic and the carpark (if you can find a space; the barriers were not functioning so anyone could use the facility) is a boon.
Check in was straightforward and efficient with pleasant, competent staff.
Room key did not fit the electricity slot - a folded over info sheet held the card in place.
Bed was fine; comfortable and pillows were good quality. Sheets were a little thread bare and had definitely seen better days. Similarly the towels were a little hard and not 4 star standard.
Bathroom toiletries were very basic and the shower was not powerful. No anti-slip mat in the bath (shower was over the bath) and the surface was very slippy (in fact, I slipped - no biggie; I didn't injure myself but someone easily could).
We requested room service breakfast; left the completed card hanging outside our room before we went to sleep (around 1am)...nothing arrived the next morning. In fairness to the staff, once we alerted the staff (30 mins after the latest time we expected the delievery) our breakfasts arrived pretty promptly. However this delayed our departure. Breakfast, when it did arrive, was quite good however. Freshly squeezed juice would have been excellent however.
No bottled water, no mini bar. No bed side lamps to set the mood - lights were ON or OFF.
The biggest let down however was the black mould and dampness around the window recess; utterly disgusting and a heath hazzard (eg. air-borne spores); made me want to not look out the window to what was an otherwise pleasant view over the Shannon and marina.
Upon check out, and settling the account, I spoke of my dis-satisfaction with the room service. The Receptionist had to speak with a Manager to remove the €10 delievery / room service charge...after 3 or 4 minutes she returned saying the Manager was on the phone and that's all she could do. However, next time I stay with them I'll be upgraded. (To what I wonder? Hopefully a different hotel up the street; the Sheraton looks a better bet.)
While functional, this is a BASIC modern hotel which already needs updating and a serious paintjob. It is not 4 star standard and, as such, is hugely over-priced. Rooms in a place like this, with the quality we experienced, should sell for no more than €60.

We stayed here overnight just last week. We arrived at 11.00p.m. and we're surprised that the foyer and bar were empty! There seemed to be a distinct lack of atmosphere in the hotel in general.

The room was fine but probably in need of a bit of an update. The bed was comfortable and we had a quiet and restful sleep.

We had breakfast in the hotel the following morning. After fruit, we both served ourselves hot breakfast items from the self service area. We were dismayed to discover on tasting them, that everything was cold. We called the waitress and informed her of this. She looked rather annoyed at us inconveniencing her and seemed uninterested in our complaint. Her annoyance was increased to epic proportions when we asked for freshly cooked breakfasts from the kitchen. We received these some fifteen minutes later. The pork products were extremely greasy so we left without eating much. As we were learn the restaurant, the waitress told us that she had checked the temperatures of the storage containers and that they were the correct temperature. We left the restaurant speechless, unable to understand her rude and unprofessional behaviour!

Overall, this hotel is centrally located and is a good stop off point on a journey. However, don't expect impressive decor and avoid the breakfast at all costs!!

Stayed over Easter Weekend, last minute decision to go. Have stayed in Athlone couple of times now and decided to try somewhere different and as last minute, price was a factor too. Best offer to be had so we went with it. 2 Adults + 1 child. We booked Junior Suite primarily for room space and were happy enough with it and on looking at standard room sizes were glad we did. Lovely view out to river, towards Castle. Breakfast was plentiful, i was really impressed with choice of cereals, fruits, fruit salads (as i don't eat the cooked breakfast), boys thought the hot food could have been 'hoter', beautiful brown bread - Staff at dining area very helful. It was the Bank Holiday Weekend and i felt hotel did lack an atmosphere, didn't seem to be too much happening. Good location in town so easy access to rest of Athlone.

Stayed recently as a family of four with two teenage sons. The location was ideal. With lovely views over the river and perfect access to all the town had to offer, with two shopping centres, cinema and ample restaurants. The breakfasts in the hotel were of a very high standard and the evening meal in the bar restaurant was satisfactory, As we had paid for a short three night break the dinner on one evening was included so as we felt we hadn't really paid for the meal, we were happy enough. I would advise eating out in the evening though if you are paying for meals.
The staff at the hotel were lovely and couldn't be faulted in any way. The hotel's decor was a little tired but everything was clean and tidy.
Tip ask for a room overlooking the river. We booked two rooms and got one with a view and one without and I emphasise the word without.
We were keen to visit the art museum and the castle but unfortunately they were closed on the Sunday and Monday and didn't open until 11am on the Tuesday so we didn't get the opportunity. We did fall upon the oldest pub in Ireland though which was just around the corner. It was so worth a visit with the traditional 'spit and sawdust' floor and nightly Irish entertainment. A real gem.
Would we stay in this hotel again, probably not as I've stayed in nicer Radissons but all in all we had a great trip to Athlone and we really didn't pay too much.
