We spent two nights in the Wineport Lodge recently to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was simply gorgeous. The location of the hotel on the shores of Lough Ree is beautiful and we got a lovely welcome from the Staff at Reception. We were also surprised and delighted to hear that we got an upgrade in our room to a deluxe lakeshore suite with a walk-in wardrobe and a fantastic view of the lake. The bed was the most comfortable I ever slept in and the peace and tranquility of the location meant that we started to relax straight away. The bathroom was large, had a separate bath and shower, and underfloor heating - real luxury!

We ate in the bar the first night. The menu is limited but good - try the excellent chips! On our second night we ate in the restaurant as part of our package. I can't find any fault with the food at all, and making a fuss of my husband on his birthday with a candle in his dessert was a lovely touch!

Breakfast is served in the dining room, but if you want to treat yourself, you can have it delivered to your room at no extra cost. Highly recommended!

The Staff really go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. If you're feeling energetic you can go on one of the walks that they recommend, but really for us the highlight was just sitting on our balcony or in our room enjoying the view and the peacefulness.

Congratulations to Norma, the manager, and to all her staff who made our stay such an enjoyable one. If you're looking to wind down on a getaway break, this really is the place to come to! While it is expensive, it's worth every cent.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms - all have a view of the lake and their own private balcony.

I was back to visit the Wineport recently for my second time. And was I glad! From the minute you step out of your car at this beautifully located Lodge, you are surrounded by a true sense of relaxation and tranquility. This is reflected by the outside surroundings with the wonderful lake view, but carries throughout the interior of the hotel, in it's decor, the tone and manner of the staff....and of course set off beautifully by the taste of the food. The menu is varied, and the flavours are divine. I am not what you would describe as a "foody", but even i could distingush that this kitchen is a cut above the rest. This is a very special venue, and I would highly recommend a visit, if you are looking for something a little bit special, or want to treat someone in your life. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, bar one person at reception. Special compliments to Norma, who oversees everything in a highly professional fashion. Well done Wineport. I look forward to my next visit, hopefully not in the too distant future!

Having had such a fabulous lunch at The Wineport Lodge when celebrating our first child's christening, we returned for more of the same when we had our second child christened. And we weren't disappointed.
The meal was wonderful. Even though I had high expectations for the food, I was still surprised by the reaction of our friends and families. Everyone was gushing about how great everything tasted. Their praise was very high indeed. And that was a great satisfaction to my wife and I, that our guests were so impressed and that they enjoyed themselves so much. No-one wants to invite friends out to lunch and hear them politely declare the mediocre fare as 'lovely', as they raise a wistful smile. There was none of that in our group, just happy, impressed, replete diners.
The staff were attentive and relaxed, and very kind and warm towards the several children among us; another facet that was commented on by more than one or two of our guests.
The restaurant itself was immaculately turned out and looked splendid. Outside, though the day had been overcast, the sun co-operated in the afternoon by emerging from behind the clouds to cast some beautiful shimmering light on the lake. We thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Had a family member's birthday party here last September. It was outstanding. Very tasty food, lovely setting, views of sunset over the lake etc.
It is expensive but worth it for the quality you receive.
The dining room itself was a little crowded we felt but this didn't really make a huge difference to us.
The staff were excellent, friendly and attentive.
Would love to go back and stay sometime.

Weekend waterside getaways from Dublin are easy to find if you drive to the coasts - Wexford, Galway, Kerry, Cork, Sligo. But where to go for lapping water in less than 2 hours' drive. Our first stop at Wineport Lodge solved the problem. There in 1.5 hours from office, warm welcome from staff, a quiet room overlooking a bay of a river Shannon lough. The road was just yards away but could have been miles: the only sound was water lapping against reeds and boathouse, the calls of unseen birds. Instant relaxation. Our room was good, the hotel staff were lovely and considerate and professional, and the food was outstanding - dinner and breakfast. Overall the place lived up to everything we had heard and we will certainly be back.

What a place , stayed here for one nite and was just amazed by the service. Our room on the edge of the lake with a balcony was just great. We even had fresh mike in the fridge for of coffee and a few home made biscuits. We had dinner and it was just fab. We woke up in the morning after a knock on the door , our breakfast arrived at no extra cost which we had outside on the balcony . We have found our new retreat .
