We stayed in Wineport for one night during February and had a wonderful time. The rooms with a lakeside view are superb in every aspect – pity the weather didn’t match but that didn’t detract from our enjoyment of our stay.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived in reception. This was also evident in the bar and in the dining room and all the staff we encountered during our stay were exceptionally professional, friendly and welcoming.
Food in the main dining room was excellent with a good menu to choose from and as you might expect a wide variety of wines that should suit all tastes.
We were very impressed from start to finish, we had a superb experience and I thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short break in a relaxing atmosphere. We will be back!.

So here goes:
My wife and I spent a comfortable 3 nights/4 days in the Wineport Lodge from 11th March. Having booked a deluxe room for the special occasion we were celebrating, we were delighted on arrival to find were had been further upgraded to the establishment’s signature suite, The Captain’s Suite for the duration of our stay. It is, and has been a cold miserable March to date, and with such weather it was hard to motivate ourselves to venture into the still wintry outdoors, but the room’s westward vista certainly provided plenty of interest with its sweeping views across Lough Ree, and 3 fabulous sunsets. All of the staff was (without exception) as we’ve come to expect: courteous, pleasant, accommodating and helpful and though it may be unfair to single out some for mention above others, I do with Eimear on reception and Eamonn at the bar.
The room itself was very good, as you’d expect: lower level seating/living area with the bedded area and main bathroom on an elevated mezzanine. All mod-cons, Wi-Fi, safe, 2 TV’s, comprehensive in house music system, mini-bar, Kettle, and plenty of tea coffee sugar & milk and even some fresh baked cookies every day; the bed was extremely comfortable, and both bathrooms were stocked with quality requisite toiletries. The room itself was very clean and was cleaned to a high standard on a daily basis.
The breakfast buffet was on a par with hotels of this standard, and the cooked breakfast catered for all tastes, and yes, the full Irish was certainly the full Irish with no skimping on the mushrooms.
Food ordered at the bar/lounge, though maybe a little on the pricey side was good nonetheless.
While staying in the area we ate in other local establishments across the lake and in the local village, and as such only had 1 dinner visit to the Restaurant. In hindsight I suppose what struck me was that there seemed no obvious Maitre D’ or Restaurant floor manager and I think in assessing the system of work I observed on the evenings in the bar, it seems a lot of the customer prep is facilitated in the bar: the bar counter is well stocked with Restaurant menu’s and a lot off dinner orders are finalised before the customer hits the restaurant. Okay, it works to a point, but in my opinion it slightly diminishes the overall fine dining experience and perhaps the only little point I’d pick to draw attention to from the whole of our stay in this hotel would be, that although I asked for a well done steak, a thinly cut rib-eye dries excessively quickly on pan or grill, and when most definitely overdone, no excess amount of Béarnaise will be able to camouflage the fact that someone took their eye off the grill, just for reference.
The Wineport Lodge is a very good hotel, with very good staff, in it’s own fabulous little nook tucked away right at the centre of the country, and you could do a lot worse than stop here when looking for somewhere to lay your head for a couple of nights…

I stayed here recently to attend a wedding. The location is fantastic and the rooms are beautiful, overlooking the lake. The food was very nice, although I wouldn't say it had the Wow factor.
Even though this is a very nice hotel, I found it a bit expensive and would suggest there could be better value to be found at other 5 star hotels.

Stayed here for 2 nights only went because we had such a nice time in the sister hotel previously. The hotel is just above average I have no complaints but it didn't meet the high standard I was expecting. Staff were ok not overly friendly or attentive. They didn't seem happy in there work environment and that always shows through. Food in the bar was nice. The spa was good and massage was wonderful the girl really knew her stuff. I thought the hot tub was dirty and wasnt impressed at all with that. Over all this hotel is overpriced have stayed in better for half the price.

Satyed in the Wineport on a Sunday night. The place was busy with it being mothers day and families going for dinner so there was a nice buzz.
Stayed in the "Medoc" room on the ground floor. Very spacious and well equipped.
The loaction of the hotel is very picturesque right on the lake and it seems they have designed the lodge so that all rooms have a view out over Lough Ree.

So its all positive apart from a couple of things.
Didnt like the way you needed to walk through the bar to get to the room. It meant dragging bags around peoples chairs trying not to bump into them. Also in the morning we had breakfast in bed which arived bang on time but was a little disappointing for a place that prides itself on food. Greasy eggs and chewy rashers>

But those are the only cons and i loved wondering the halls looking at the different art-work.
All in all i would go back and stay again!

Stayed in Wineport recently for a one night break. It is a v relaxing spot with excellent food and wine selection. It's a little remote but that can be a good thing - nice walks and wide variety of birds to see on Lough Ree. Staff were friendly and efficient. Free wireless. Would return again.

I recently stayed at this hotel for one night. While the staff were friendly and the food was OK, I cannot understand how the pricing is so high. I have also recently stayed in a top class 5 Star hotel in Wicklow and the bill there for my one night stay (both Sat nights) was less than the Wineport. The other hotel I mention had a beautiful pool and spa area and the food in the restaurant was excellent. So if you get a very good deal, the Wineport may be value for money but on the price we paid, it was grossly over expensive. The hot tub was dirty and was not available when we first inquired. When we did go up to the rooftop to use it, it was only at 33 degrees (below body temp!). The wine we ordered at dinner was not available and both our dinner and breakfast could have been warmer. In summary there is definitely better value to be got in other hotels.
