“Lovely”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Just back for a night here. Had a lovely time. Checked in at 4pm. Hubbie went for two hours of treatments (part of his birthday pressie) Junior and I went to our room - the Rioja. It was lovely with two big beds - very firm, a small seating area looking out at the lake and a huge bathroom with free standing bath and large wet area. Junior and I went for afternoon tea - coffee and scones with jam and cream. Yum. We headed for the rooftop Hot Tub - very hot (even outside when it was close to -1) Headed to the bar for a pre-dinner glass of Chardonnay - again delicious and then onto dinner. We had starters - Corn on the Cob for junior which he devoured, Chilli Chicken for hubbie and beef croquet for me. We followed this by Chicken gougons for junior, Duck for me and Steak for dad. Both myself and hubbie thought the mains were too salty. For dessert we had crumble, choclate mouse for me and a fruit face for junior. We washed this down with a bottle of Main au Main (Chardonnay). Restaurant service is a little slow.

The staff were lovely - we borrowed a dvd from reception.

Had breakfast - nice selection of breads and cereal and a good traditional irish as well.

A nice treat but too expensive to be done more often.

We recently spent a night in the Wineport Lodge. It's in a stunning location - right on the edge of Lough Ree near Athlone. It has its own jetty, waterside tables etc. I imagine it gets good restaurant business from cruisers on the Shannon in Summer. We were there in February and fortunately the sun was shining even though it was too cold to sit outside. The building is wooden: it looks as though it started as a relatively simple structure (the restaurant) and expanded into a much more sophisticated bedroom/spa area. All rooms appear to have lake views and private balconies; they are really superb, interestingly designed, not your usual rectangle. Nowhere are you overlooked by other rooms. There is a very comfortable lounge with a very welcome woodburning stove and bar. We found the staff to be very efficient and well trained. The food was superb, a relatively limited menu but prepared with imagination and with adequate portions; a dinner to rank among the best we have recently had. The restaurant is obviously well known judging by the number of diners on a Monday night. We did not use the spa so I can't comment. They have a rooftop (2 stories!) hot tub which we didn't try either.
Altogether a cosy, relaxing break with good food and great views. It probably wouldn't be so inviting on a miserable foggy day.

Enjoyed one night away with my wife on a Sunday night through a pigsback deal. Staff were polite and very attentive, Hotel and grounds are stunning and room was ready when we arrived. Some
very nice little touches. We got the Deluxe lakeview room so view was stunning overlooking the lake. We enjoyed dinner that evening, it was pricey but not unexpectantlly so and the food was top class fare. We had breakfast to the room the following morning and the only complaint was there was very little of it, very basic, but still piping hot and on time. I would not hesitate in recommending the hotel to anyone who would be looking for a romantic getaway.

We left our five kids behind for much needed relaxation and was taken aback by the location I couldn't believe it really was on the water! We were surprisingly upgraded (we are one of these couples who never get upgraded!) and the room was gorgeous. Loads of space, large balcony, free standing bath and your bed facing out onto the lake! It was so peaceful and so relaxing we had to pinch ourselves. From a dip in the roof top hot tub to our spa treatments and our country rambles with stunning views amazing! Unfortunately on our second night there was a wedding which definitely increases the noise level! We weren't told when we called to make our booking which I think we should have been and our room was very near the function room. However when we rang to ask what time the music would finish and the man at reception was very attentive and couldn't have done more for us. The next day discreetly we complained and the lady on reception was lovely and handled it really well and really looked after us. So as a whole still an amazing weekend and location, staff and food could not be faulted.

Magnificent setting, beautiful rooms and the view from the balcony was something else. Even had a walk in wardrobe with a sensor light! Dinner was delicious and breakfast in our rooms (for no extra charge) really topped off a fantastic day and night at Wineport.

Will definitely come back there soon.

Room Tip: The Captain's suite comes recommended but any of the suites with a balcony and view of the lake...

We spent a night in the Wineport and had such an enjoyable stay from the welcome to check out. I cannot fault anything in this hotel. The hot tub is so good especially on a cold, cold evening, dinner amazing and so relaxing. The next morning breakfast again was perfect. This is one of my favourite hotels and I cannot wait to go back. I think a lot of hotel staff could learn so much from the staff in the Wineport, every member of staff seems to really enjoy their job. I have recommended this hotel to lots of friends and family who all agree with me.
Keep up the good work!!!
