We arrived in Glasson Village near Athlone on Valentines weekend. As it was this weekend we knew the restaurant would likely be very busy & were wondering if this would be a " fill em up & get out " dining experience !
From the outset these fears were put to rest, a pre dinner drink at a relaxed pace, lots of time to peruse the food and wine menu's and discuss the different dishes on it.
I started with a Prawn & Corriander Won Ton - absolutely delic ! Light, tastey and full of flavour and lots of it on a bed of crisp salad properly dressed with house made dressing.
The mains that followed - Shoulder of Lamb, marinated and slow baked with plenty of seasonal vegetables was what I can only call incredible! Melt in the mouth, flavour packed, succulent and delicious. All this was helped down by a fine bottle of a Reserve Rioja - Heaven ! Tough decisions followed but eventually I settled on the taster plate - 4 different mini desserts all themed around Valentines ( of course ) . A home made Chocolate Box filled with marinated strawberries, a Red Velvet Heart with a cream topping & a heart shaped jelly, a Brandy Basket, with a very tastey filling - you get the picture I'm sure ! We relaxed with coffees and after dinner drinks, no pressure to leave which was lovely and friendly , helpful staff. A lovely evening, a great dining experience and all at quite reasonable prices. - Can't wait to go back !
