“Busy on a Friday night - good food / quite expensive”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

Our group of 4 enjoyed a nice evening at Thyme last week. Decor is relatively understated - not particularly fancy. Food was good overall, starters a little small and more attention paid to the 'frills' than to the main event on the plate. Mains were of reasonable size and good quality. Desserts so-so and expensive (6.95 a go - perhaps thats why they dont show the price on the dessert menu). Wine list was reasonable. Overall happy enough with the meal but wouldnt rave about it for 45 a head with only 1 bottle of wine between us.

“delicious”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

Praise for an excellent meal on a Monday night, no table booked restaurant close to been full. Restful decor, good value 2 courses for 20 euro 3 courses for 25. Starters of smoked fish cakes and chicken terraine were good, Along with 5/6 choices on menu there were 2/3 specials for starter and main course. We chose special of cod with salmon fish sauce, absolutely excellent very fresh fish cooked perfectly, one chocolate dessert also good. Friendly staff know there food well. I would highly recommend the food will go back. Toilets (mens only seen) poor hand dryer not working, although clean, not impressed.

“Excellent meal !!!!”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

We had one of our best meals ever at Thyme in Athlone last Sat night and because of it we are already talking about going back to stay in Athlone just to eat at this restaurant.
The restaurant is quiet small but we never felt crowded.Over the evening three different staff approached our table and each one was friendly and very knowledgable about the menu, the staff all seemed to be very experienced or at least well versed in the menu.
We found it difficult to choose because between the specials and the menu we were spoiled for choice, we settled on potato cake starter and the scampi and both were brilliant but the pork belly main course was the winner, it was perfect. I had the chicken from the specials and while it was excellent I was jealous of the pork.
The food was presented so well and tasted just as good as it looked. One of the things I really liked was even though it was a small restaurant we never felt rushed or that our table needed to be re-used so hopefully Thyme is busy enough all week long and will survive these tough times. We will be back.
