We took the Viking trip from Athlone on Monday 12 th Aug and we had a lovely experience.
We stopped off at the Hodson Bay Hotel for lunch and the staff there were ever so gracious and couldnt do enough to please us ;Michael of Viking Tours gave a very good description of the Lake and the environs of the River Shannon ;he was excellent ,thank you Michael.
We returned to Athlone again by boat and visited the art gallery ,unfortunately the castle was closed when we reached the gates ,but that will be for another day.

“Professor Mike!”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

Mike picked up our group of 23 at Clonmacnois, and we sailed along the River Shannon to Athlone. It was a most enjoyable ride in every way. Mike and his son, were in charge - they were both easy going, pleasant, and professional. Mike is a storehouse of knowledge about many, many aspects of Irish history, flaura, fauna, geology, meteorology, topography, an endless font of knowledge. He spoke with ease and authority in a most relaxed manner. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the time with Viking/Professor Mike! Afterward, he gave us a great tip, to go see the stained-glass windows, done by Harry Clarke, in the church in Athlone-- largest collection of Clarke's work in Ireland -- glorious! Thanks, Professor!

“Great tour, cool boat, Interesting Guide”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Having lived close to the Shannon for years, and having most of my family from the Shannon region, as well as having swam in it, I was surprised to find out that I knew absolutely about it until I went on this tour in July 2013. The captain/tour guide shared an encyclopedic knowledge of the geography of the river and it's history, during a 1+ hour return tour from Athlone Castle to Hodson Bay. The scenery is beautiful, the boat is the definitely the most interesting on the river, and on a good day, it's hard to beat.

“Relaxing”
Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

Myself and my husband took a trip out recently on the boat with our two daughters although being from the area of athlone We both still found the views beautiful and facts about the surrounding area very interesting. Our guide was also able to answer questions that were put to him about the area. It is definitely one for all ages.

“September morning”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

My husband and I have a wonderful trip on the Viking Tour on a misty September morning, that cleared to a wonderful sunny day like an Indian Summer. The tour was made all the more memorable by the wonderful commentary on the Flora and Fauna by Michael who owns and runs the Viking Tour. A trip on the Majestic Shannon on the Viking Tour should be first on your check list.
