We just returned from 10 days in Ireland, 6 on a VBT bike tour (and thanks VBT for setting us up here!) and while we stayed at many wonderful places, Sheedy's was our favorite. The setting is sublime, the town of Lisdoonvarna a perfect jumping off place for local explorations (of pubs, lanes, shores and trails) and the hotel itself so warmly, graciously inviting you'd think you were staying with friends at their elegant yet welcoming country home. Martina is the consummate hostess, always present to make sure ever request is fulfilled. the pub inside is tiny and cozy and perfect for a pre-dinneer get together, the gardens lovely and the rooms pristine and beautifully appointed. You may think I am over using the adjectives, but we travel a lot and this is the place we dream of finding on every trip.

best of all is the FOOD. Oh, my. I would travel 50 miles one way for one evening just to eat John's silver hake or duck confit. The skin on hake was crisp, the flesh creamy and delicious, sitting bed of cilantro and fennel that melted in your mouth. The duck confit... we confit duck at home and I intend to beg John for his secret to getting the meat so moist and succulent while the skin is shatteringly crisp and delicious! I have heard that John gives cooking lessons in the off season. Why not do a four day cooking experience? Four days of cooking lessons with John, local shopping and exploring and delicious wine? sign me up!

Stay here. You won't be disappointed.

Hospitality: Martina has it down to a natural science. We miss her.
Food: Wow. The breakfast is unrivaled as is the lamb, steak, or fish n chips.
Pints: several pubs in Lisdoonvarna. None with a Guinness pint this good. In fact, that includes Dublin, Dingle, Listowel, and Kilkenny.
Location: right in the heart of the Burren and near the cliffs. And laid back! (Except for during matchmaker festival I hear).

We miss this place, having visited for a second honeymoon! I could live in County Clare, l wish....

John and I are delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay here with us and in Lisdoonvarna! Yes, you are correct - its nearly time for our annual MatchMaking Festival. This is a traditional Harvest festival and I look forward to welcoming back many guests who stay with us year after year. they enjoy the music, dancing and company in the town. I look forward to welcoming you both back too, in the very near future! Martina

The food here is truly amazing, such an unexpected bonus, because the hotel itself is small and unassuming, but the chef is sensational. We enjoyed a super dinner, really tasty, fresh, local produce superbly cooked. The room we had was very spacious and utterly quiet. So relaxing. Martina, our hostess/owner, was very attentive and on the ball. Really nice place, make sure you book a meal!!

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed to be big, so not much to choose.

We stayed here for one night passing through. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed by the time we arrived but we were treated to a delicious supper of soup and smoked salmon nonetheless. If the breakfast was anything to go by, an evening meal would have been something to experience.

Maybe next time.

We recently took a bike trip to thre Burren and stayed at Sheedy's. Lisdoonvarna is a central location and a very cute town with a few nice bars for the evening. The food and hospitality at Sheedy's was wonderful. the rooms were clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Get a fan for the room. It happened to be warm whern we were there and ventilation was limited

This quaint little hotel has been operating for a couple of generations. The room we had was spacious and had an old but classic bathroom with real marble, etc. don't get me wrong, it was the type you would find in a grand old hotel that decided to keep things the way they were and not replace with contemporary fixtures. The place is just wonderful. Martina is your host. We had no better host in our two weeks in Ireland. When we go back, we'll definitely stay there as the day we were supposed to visit the cliffs, you couldn't see anything. Not the ocean, not a cliff...nothing, because of the fog.

My girlfriend and I stayed in Sheedys at the end of April. Overall the whole experience was brilliant. The staff are very friendly, informative and kind. The house is so quiet and relaxing with a great little bar and a lovely fire to sit in front of while reading a book. It is so close to the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and all of the other amenities close by that personally I would recommend staying here instead of a hotel - the staff here are more personable and attentive to the individual.

Be warned it is impossible to not find the food amazing and very filling. If you have recently started a diet you will probably find yourself abandoning it here as you read over the fantastic menu and see the delicious courses being brought out.

I will definitely be back to Sheedys.
