Description: PUB OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND 10AM TILL LATE FOOD SERVED FROM MARCH UNTIL NOVEMBER 12-4 6-9 EVERYDAY Last orders 8.45 In spring 2011, Peter Curtin embarked on a new endeavour: He set up the Burren Brewery in the Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna. The building, which in 1865 started off as a pub, then was expanded into a bakery, now also harbours a micro-brewery under its roof. At the same time it is an eatery and a renowned music venue for traditional and contemporary music. Peter realised very quickly how complicated and time-consuming it was to brew his own beer - it really is a labour of love. He enrolled the help of a Master Brewer, and the result can now be tasted in the Roadside Tavern: The Burren Gold is a delicious, characterful lager. The mainstream lagers available every-where just cannot compete with this one!The Burren Red with its great red colour is a spicy, slightly sweet ale which even features a hint of smoke. It seems to become the favourite among the punters at the Roadside! The Burren Black is a stout that does not have to fear the competition of a certain other black stuff. It is smooth and full-bodied, with a creamy crown of froth on top - and definitely alive inside! A heavenly drink.

A great local feel bar that not only provides home cooked food but also home brewed beer from its micro brewery.

The Roadside Tavern is a small pub just off the main square in Lisdoonvarna that I'd found on searches of small craft breweries so thought I'd pay it a visit. First off was food, this was exceptional. As we were early I had the burger since the specials etc weren't quite prepared, I'd be pretty hard to please and wasn't expecting much but can honestly say I this was the nicest burger I've ever had. It came with homemade tomato, pepper and chilli chutney which was to die for, the sweetness brought out the already delicious flavour in the meat. The chef Ciaran seems very dedicated to only sourcing the freshest local ingredients down to the very pigs for the Pork Belly dish. He is a very friendly guy who seems passionate about what he does and even helped by calling the B&B I'd hoped to stay in and checking they had a room free. The bar is also connected to the Burren Brewery and serves Burren Gold, Red & Black (lager, ale & stout) on draught, all three are very palitable and worth a try. I met Peter the brewer sitting a the bar, of course sampling his own stuff so it was good to get to talk to him as well.
The interior of the bar was a bit drab for my tastes, it is clean but I prefer the more traditional dark woodwork and colours. The fire was great at keeping the place warm though on a cold night.
The only bad points are these. There is no ATM in Lisdoonvarna and the pub has no card machine which it should, so unless you have cash you have to go to the shop in the main street for cash back where you have to spend at least €10. I got the feeling this was a local initiative to get people to spend money in the shop so beware and get money before you arrive, the closest ATM is in Ennistimon. Also as with anywhere locals with try and put business their friends way so know where you want to stay before you arrive even if it's not booked, do not ask anyone to find you somewhere or you could end up paying over the odds.

Stopped in for a couple of drinks of the local brew on a cycling trip around the burren. Immediatley greeted by a warm fire and and even warmer welcome by the owner. Regretably we were only passing through on this occasion but somewhere we would have loved to stay for the night and will definitely be returning to Lisdoonvarna if only to spend a night in this excellent pub!
