“Good food with traditional Irish music”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

We arrived late and hungry in Oughterard and ended up at the Breathnach's for a bite to eat. The place was very busy so we had almost an hour wait. We found a place at the bar where we enjoyed drinks with the locals. The owner was very friendly, he engaged with us when our table was ready apologizing for the wait and inquiring ab out where we were from. He invited us to stay later and enjoy traditional Irish music that was available that Saturday evening. We enjoyed the traditional Irish stew and the seafood chowder, both delicious. The only suggestion for improvement is to offer better wi-fi connection. The one available at the pub kept disconnecting and we were told by the bartender that the connection interfered with the credit card machine. This may not be a big deal for locals, but for us travelers, internet connection ends up being a good reason to visit a place more often during our vacation. Thank you for great hospitality :)

We ate here twice during our week's stay in Oughterard. On both occasions the service was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious.

“Drinks with the locals...”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Popped in here for a drink whilst walking around this very small village. The front is the seating for food, and the back is wooden and like an old bar. Staff were friendly. We only stayed for drinks, but it did smell and look good!

“Busy place, decent food”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We were here on a weeknight, and even though we thought we'd be early enough to beat the crowds, the downstairs was completely full. We ended up dining up stairs, where it was uncomfortably hot and loud from the radio. Our food was really delicious, but it took a long time for it to get to us. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful (even with running up and down the stairs). If we were do go here again, we would try for a slower time of day.

“Great food”

We visited Breathnach's Bar twice during our week's stay. Got chatting to the locals who recommended places to visit. Very friendly and efficient service. The food was beautifully presented and of a high standard. Our return visit within a week says it all!
