“Not great, not terrible”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

After a nice wander around Howth, it began to rain and we ducked into the nearest place, which was the Waterside. It looked nice and we found a table. It hadn't been cleared from the last patrons (to be fair it was busy) and a few minutes later a waitress came over and asked if she could take our orders - we were still surrounded by the remnants of someone elses meal, let alone looked at a menu. The food was average, a lack of vegetarian options and the menu had a strange eclectic feel to it, no sense of identity on the menu.

Overall, average service, average food. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again, there are lots of places to try in Howth.

“Can't find anything negative to say about this place!”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

Came here for Sunday Lunch and all of us had the Roast Beef and were delighted with it, not only because it tasted amazing but it was excellent value at €10.05 each. Great portion sizes, nice atmosphere, waiter was beyond friendly, comfortable seating, prompt service....absolutely nothing negative I can say about this place and I would have no problem recommending it!

“Good service and nice pint - but food is not good.”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

I used to work in Howth so I have seen the transformations of this pub over the years. The lounge part has turned into a food place - when it used to be a nice comfy seating area - which I did not like. Barman was great. Warm and friendly - which counts for a lot, and the pint was nice. Food was poor though and cannot be recommended.

“Terrible meal”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

Visited Howth on a beautiful weekend and there certainly are a lot of eating placed to choose from. Given the appearance of the Waterside Bar we decided it looked like it might be a nice choice for lunch (dont judge a book by it's cover I know!). The pub was busy and we were told to site anywhere we could get in.. a very kind couple moved over to alow our party to sit together.

All appeared well until the food arrived! This meal was simply awful.. I ordered the traditional fresh haddock and chips.. unfortunately the chef had neither de-scaled or skinned the fish and the resulting batter was literally a mouth full of scales! Like eating dinner with a mouth full of sequins.. yuck! Other delights tried were the chicken wrap.. chicken maryland and patatas bravas... all equally dissapointing. I also noticed that the couple across from us left most of their food also!

The whole of our meal was spent being hassled by a few of the local bar-flies calling out 'gis a chip luv'... 'gaaon gus a chip'.. plastered! and didnt make the experience any better!

My advice.. dont eat here!
