“Not much of a choice in Howth...”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

This is a very charming area, a beautiful harborside town just outside Dublin. It's unfortunate that there are so few accommodations, which is why we were referred to this hotel by the owner of a very fine restaurant in town, who described it perfectly; needs serious attention, but a wonderful setting for a good price. We were given a room for one night, large by most standards, well-priced. The entire hotel is shabby and absolutely needs an uplift before things start to fall apart. I see that the staff is defending itself against many of these comments, for good reason. I called for an early-morning wake-up call to make a flight and they called a half-hour late. I didn't trust them so my mobile phone made a good backup; otherwise, I probably would have missed my flight. The desk people were very friendly, but the guy handling the wake-up calls was obviously in his own world. Bottom line: OK if you need a room, but don't rely on anything else.

Room Tip: See several rooms before you decide on one.

Stayed here with my fiance and my 17 month old child. We had a lovely time. Swimming pool is child friendly as is the rest of the hotel. The managers and staff were lovely and reception was very helpful and hospitable. The only downside was the food was quite expensive for such small portions so you might want to consider eating else where if staying for a few days. Overall though it was a good experience and the location and views are top class..

We had a double room which was clean and adequate . The bathroom was very new but the shower pressure was absolutely hopeless which was a pity as the rest of the bathroom was lovely. There was a constant fan noise outside our room both day and night which was very distracting when trying to sleep. The tv was dated and the picture was really bad and only about 5 channels and not even the local rte !! Staff were excellent and helpful . The courtesy bus was fab although we did walk in and out to howth cause the weather was so nice. On asking the courtesy driver where was nice to eat he said he had no idea as he did not eat the food here !!!!! ( a bit puzzling !!!!) however some super restaurants in howth and all in all a great visit .

Just back from here and won't be back again, we picked howth for a weekend away for a change, parked in the hotel and went for a walk down to the pier, there were over 200 young people having a great time drinking in the sun, we thought it was going to be a quiet walk!!!! Back to hotel on free bus which the provide, hotel is old & dated, room was ok tv really old fashioned remote didn't work, only 1 plug in room, view from room was beautiful but that was about all, pool was dirty, breakfast was only ok, won't be back wont reccomend it to anyone, if you have to stay in howth and get it for a very very good price then fine but don't go here for a treat or special weekend away.

Hotel offers stunning views across the water. Room was not that clean but for the price it was acceptable. Staff were great though. Breakfast was a bit average and 'mass produced'. Great to have such a good spa and gym right there though. All in all I enjoyed my stay.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are delighted that overall your stay with us was enjoyable. We have discussed your comments regarding the cleanliness of the bedroom with housekeeping as no matter what price you pay, the cleanliness should be of a very high standard and this is what we expect. Whilst we feel there is a good choice on the breakfast buffet, we are at present adding more items and generally improving the presentation. Thank you again for your feedback - it helps us get things right!
Kind regards.

Booked hotel as base for visiting the excellent Dublin Bay Prawn Festival. Stunning quiet location, warm welcome at check-in and lovely sea view room overlooking golf course. 15 mins walk through lovely parkland and past Howth Castle brings you to the harbour area, also where the station is so handy for taking the Dart into Dublin.

Breakfast was good but the young staff seemed under pressure. The only negatives were that the bedroom was very hot, probably caused by the location of the swimming pool whose late opening hours meant you couldnt have a swim before breakfast, therefore we sadly never got a chance to use it.

Dear Guest,
We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the Dublin Bay Prawn Festival and your stay with us. I am sorry if the bedroom was too warm – the radiators do have thermostats and we will get maintenance to make sure they are all working properly. I am not sure what you mean about the swimming pool because you should have been able to get a swim in as the pool is open from 7 am to 10 pm daily. We do hope you will return and stay with us again.
Kind regards.
