“Small lovely nice place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

Friday, 3 pm and the place was full. The shellfish platter was "the dish" to order. Everything fresh, the fish and shellfish was displayed at the counter. Really nice, very friendly staff. Nice for nipples and a glass of wine or a dinner.

“Tasty bites in a tiny spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

Lunch with my hubby on a Friday before the kids get in - we booked a window seat that a.m. and arrived just before 1p.m. to sit in my favourite spot. So many lovely dishes to choose from - we opted for Scallops (done in a tomato based sauce with chorizo) with some griddle toasted bread, fish x 3 and chips, one of the specials - pan fried plaice with lemon and dill and a portion of patatas bravas. The scallops were cooked to perfection. Fish x 3 was very tasty (especially the smoked coley) - chips were a little overdone. The plaice was fantastic - lovely balance in the sauce. Patatas bravas were spicy and delicious. We asked for an extra slice of bread and two arrived - one is too small per the chef!
Two glasses of a new Pinot Grigio to wash it down - excellent - and a coke for the driver!
The restaurant filled up pretty quickly - there were 5 others there when we got in. A large family group from S. Africa came in and people moved to accommodate them. The atmosphere was fantastic and as tables emptied they were filled immediately. Love this spot - especially the window stools. NB - you cannot book at the weekend. Service excellent as usual :-)

“disappointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2012

I wanted to visit this place after reading about it in magazine. So one sunny day we took a trip up to Howth and gave it a try. The place was very busy, there is only few tables in and few outside as well. Even in the busy lunch time there was only one waitress and one guy preparing food. Service wasn't very good, as we had to ask for everything twice(menu, water, bread..) After other guests around us left, the tables stayed dirty for the rest of our time there. Portions are VERY small.I know its tapas, but it just didn't work for me. Only the chowder was ok, but i've had better. We both had chowder and one tapas each, ending up paying almost 40euro. Then we regret that we didn't go to some of the other places around where we could have proper meal for the same price with possibly better service. Wouldn't go back and would not reccommend it.

“excellent food, very reasonably priced”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

We took the table next to the till as I don't like high stools. While they weren't the most comfortable seats, we had an excellent view of the whole restaurant. I'd telephoned to reserve a table 3 days earlier, I'm pleased I did as within 20 mins of arriving at 16:45, 3 groups of people were turned away as they hadn't reserved a table. My partner had the seafood chowder while I chose the mussels. Both were excellent, my partner reporting it's 'the best chowder ever', and good sized portions. We then had the fish and chips and the seafood platter. We probably ordered too much food, but as it tasted so good, we managed to finish it all. We wavered about ordering desert, eventually deciding against as we had eaten so much excellent, tasty food it would have been a waste. We'd ordered a bottle of merlot and was pleasantly surprised when the bill arrived - €57!

“If they're going to open for business they need a chef ... The waitress was giving him instructions onhow and what to cook !”

A very disappointing visit. Although 3 meals were acceptable the fourth was I edible. Rice was stodgy and old. Nice waitress does not compensate for poor food. Get a qualified chef before this place closes.
