We were staying at the Clontarf Castle Hotel over the Valentine'e weekend and decided to eat out on the Friday night. It was through Tripadvisor's reviews that we chose Ella in Howth. After €22 taxi ride we arrived at the restaurant on Howth's Main street. I have to admit to being slightly underwhelmed at the decor but this was a minor 'irk' quickly dismissed by friendly service and totally gorgeous food. Absolutely delicious menu lived up to the excellent reviews. I found the wine list strangely small for a Wine Bar but acceptable nonetheless. All in all a great eating experience.

Went here for lunch - worth the walk up to the village from Howth harbour.

+ Everything seems to be home made.
+ Spicy Tomato soup was amazing. Crab with soda bread was really superb
+ Friendly Canadian who had the right mix of banter and efficient service

Another great meal in Ella on Saturday night. Prawns tempura to die for, crab mornany delicious, the men thought the steaks were the best ever. I guess that's what happens when your butcher is four doors away! Cornels' lamb curry was superb. Sweet things were super, particularly the rhubarb & strawberry crumble, & I did here an ooh from the other end of the table before a chocolate brownie was quickly inhaled!!
This time we were a party of 8, I've been many times & love the laid back atmosphere & superb food. Good value& lots of special offers to be had when the purse strings are tight. Wonderful wine list, you can see how knowledgeable & into wine the team are. Very good service.
