“Convenient for Tuam”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

Stayed for two nights. The drive over from Dublin was smooth and the Hotel was easy to find. Beware of Tuam traffic though. The Hotel is right in the main town square which is a crossroads. Traffic was backed up in most directions. From reading Trip Advisor we knew in advance that car parking would be tricky so we headed straight for the cathedral car park which is a very short walk and two euro for the day. A sign at the car park however said No Overnight Parking so be careful if you use it.

On arrival, reception was unmanned and we rang a bell. A young lady appeared and she had our reservation. She couldn't confirm whether the rooom had been cleaned after the previous occupant and suggested we pop back if it wasn't. There was no advice about breakfast or other dining, no card imprint and no advice about the Town or parking. It appeared that she was one of the waitressing staff and clearly not familiar with check in.

The room was fine and clean. It is however a pub with rooms and not a hotel. There was no hotel directory outlining the services etc although there was a very useful map of Tuam. A closer look at the Hotel car park found it to be full. We asked at reception about which was the best other car park to use for overnight parking and the helpful gent at the desk explained that some staff cars were parked in the hotel car park and he arranged for someone to move so we could get our car in. If the car park is full, query and you may find that there is space!!

Our room was directly above the function room and there was a party on. On night one, the disco was still booming at 1.30am. Luckilly we'd been out for a few beers and we slept through it. It was very loud though. A bottle of water on the bedside table was vibrating and the sound was causing ripples in the water!!!

Breakfast was fine. The hotel opens to the general public and you simply order off the menu. €7.95 gets you 3 saus, 2 bacon, black & white pudding, mushrooms, 2 eggs, beans and chips! Plus tea or coffee and toast. The breakfast was very good value.

On night two, there was another function and we were a bit later and a bit drunker getting in so sleep came easy again. The music was still blaring out well after 2.00am though (although it wasn't as loud as the previous night).

Brekky on morning 2 was as good as morning 1 and check out was smooth 2. We had left a bag in the room and the hotel even took the time to ring us to check whether it was important and they offered to post the contents to us.

All in all, a pleasant stay. the staff were very friendly and helpful and we had no complaints. watch out for the function room though, especially if you are staying on the first floor.

Room Tip: Check whether the function room will be in use.

I would highly recommend this venue. All five is us really enjoyed our lunch, the food was EXCELLENT, efficient and arrived piping hot, it was also very well priced. The staff were very friendly and the newly refurbished dining area added to our experience. We are looking forward to returning in the very near future.

Stayed in this hotel for one night as we were only passing through. I was very disappointed.

Had to walk up two flights of stairs with heavy suit cases as there are no lifts, apart from a disabled lift. This establishment is more like a pub with rooms than a hotel and certainly not 3 star. The room we were given was like a room in an attic, with a tiny window.

Seating in the bar was very shabby and found the food to be very over-priced for what you got. Paid nearly €8 for a starter, which consisted of two tiny cubes of brie and a little side salad. Was very disappointed with breakfast. We were told to take a seat and fifteen minutes later had to ask if we could order as waitresses just ignored us. Had to set the table myself! Breakfast was very poor.

Needless to say, I will not be staying here again

Room Tip: Please beware no lifts available apart from a disabled lift

I said I would never go back here again to eat
But my son twisted my arm under new management the lady who now runs it can't do enough for you
Food is good well priced only downside they don't take the orders down on paper to much in the head hence orders are often mixed or wrong
But what you get is good and well priced staff are very friendly
