The Church is very pretty, with beautiful detail. As a lover of WB Yeats work, I wanted to see his final resting place. The Church is only a few minutes drive outside of Sligo and worth the visit. There is a lovely little Cafe and Irsh crafts shop. Give yourself an hour for the visit.

Worth a 15 minute stop on the main road from Sligo to Donegal, this is the burial place of WB Yeates the poet. There is not much else to see unless you want to wander round the old graveyard with its collection of old Celtic crosses. You can park in a carpark near the church but watch out for the tour busses in case they block you in!

The visitor is immediately imbued with a sense of serenity here. A beautiful church and cemetery encompassed by a peaceful walled garden. There is a very moving memorial to Yeats outside the churchyard. The early 19th century church, built in the neo-gothic style, is full of light and spirit. The gravesite of Yeats and his beloved George is dignified in its simplicity amidst the dappled light of towering pine trees. Beyond the walls, the rising majesty of the cloud-capped Benbulden Mountains is exhilarating. The gift shop / cafe at the entrance to the churchyard is exceptional, particularly if you have an interest in the life and work of Yeats. I spent a small fortune there, easily and willingly, such was the quality of the offerings. There is also a studio featuring the work of a very gifted photographer and artist. Don't overlook the high cross partially imbedded in the carpark wall and the remains of a medieval tower across the road.

My husband and I visited the church recently and it was so pretty! The grounds are well kept and the graves very old. We found it fascinating to walk around and read all the tombstones. We also visited the poet Yeat's grave while we were here and the Tall Cross -- which is in amazing shape. Their gift shop is cute and has yummy scones. Don't miss this attraction when you are in County Sligo.

Beautiful church at a site of an old monastery and the burial site of Poet W.B.Yates.
Note the many old gravestones and a huge Celtic cross.

This is such a beautiful church. I was in awe of the great craftsmanship of the interior. One of my favorite things on the grounds was the huge old celtic cross. It was a great place to wander around. The old headstones are always interesting to me. Many of them were in terrible disrepair.

1809 church built on the site of an old monastery founded between 900 and 1200. W.B. Yeats father was a rector here and W.B. Yeats is buried here.

A quaint little church under the shadow of Benbulben Mountain.
The burial ground of W. B. Years “Cast a cold eye, On life, On death, Horseman pass by. Buried in 1939.
Nicely kept graveyard, lovely little church with a colourful back wall “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty”.
There’s a stone 3D effect outside the church with one of Yeat’s poems etched into it. Really well done and a little stone stature of a young man on his haunches looking at the poem. “Thread softly because you thread on my dreams”
There’s a teashop and crafts on the grounds - the food was very tasty.

This church is located right on N15, the main road north of Sligo and is this very easy to pull over to admire. We were able to go in and look around. Look for the front doors with the Swan door handles which are a reference to Yeat’s poem about the Swans of Coole Park.

Very worth a visit, especially if you can stop in between tour buses.

This is a small, but pretty little church and graveyard that famously houses Yeats' grave. There are some Celtic crosses in the graveyard as well. Free, but they appreciate donations.
