I've been to many abbeys and ecclesiastical ruins throughout Ireland and Jerpoint is definitely among the most impressive. It's well worth taking the tour as there is so much of interest which you could easily miss by just wandering around yourself. Katherina was a most engaging and informative guide who really knows her stuff.
Highlights were the wonderful tomb carvings and those on the reconstructed west side of the large cloister (look out for Anthony of Egypt's pig! and the Ormonde knight in armour).
The setting is beautiful and you really get a sense of how important and wealthy the Cistercians here were before all too sadly the Abbey fell into disuse and ruin.
