A 12th century ruin. Took a short very interesting tour and the guide was great. Well worth a visit. A beautiful place. A small abbey so not crowded. Easy to find.

So glad we stopped at Jerpoint Abbey. The ruins are quite extensive and well preserved, dating back to the 12th century. It was just such a lovely and peaceful spot. There are so many castles and abbeys throughout Ireland but this one really excels. We also purchased our Heritage Cards here and were very glad we did. Put this stop on your TTD List.

We had one of the best guided tours in the whole of Ireland! The lady who escorted us during the visit was a keen historian and we had a visit to what seemed to be another Irish church in ruins that was most interesting! It even had a quizz for our kids to fill in, what is great to keep them interested and entertained! In the end they even received a poster of a POW monument each, for having answered correctly to every question! We recommend this place unhesitatingly!

There was only one other tourist couple there during our visit to the Abbey. We would highly recommend a visit if you have any interest in the historical Abbey's in Ireland. The location is close to Kilkenny, but for a Saturday late morning, did not appear to be frequented by the large tour buses, which was great.

The tour guide was well informed of her history. Although I enjoy using my imagination on ruins, The tour better explained the history behind many of the abbeys Ireland takes for granted. Not crowded like most of the guided castles you see either.
