“Wedding”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

Our daughter had her wedding reception in Castlemartyr Resort Hotel shortly before Christmas. The hotel staff were always professional in their dealings with us. We stayed three days and enjoyed every minute of it. Dinner on the first night was excellent. The day of the wedding was a wonderful day for family and guests. The hotel was welcoming, warm and elegant. The food was first class. We could not have hoped for better. A big thank you to all the staff, with a special mention of Claire in breakfast dining room and the wedding co-ordinator.

Room Tip: Junior suite is very nice.

We stayed at Castlemartyr Resort for two nights in October 2012 for a relatives wedding and cannot say enough good things about our stay.

The hotel is a reasonable drive from Cork airport but this is pleasant and very easy by taxi; the entrance to the hotel is quite grand and the driveway in leads to great expectations which are not let down upon arrival. The check in process was very slick as was the residents bar; as is normal a few of us were up long past others the night before the wedding and yet they were happy to produce sandwiches for us even after room service had ended.

Our rooms were in the new extension rather than original building and were amazingly modern and specious, unless you prefer short distances to the main facilities or are a castle aficionado I don’t think it worth paying considerably extra to stay in the original building myself. Whilst we didn’t use the spa we saw it and it looked truly amazing, if you are staying here be sure to take advantage of it!

The breakfasts were fantastic and whilst we did not try the restaurant, the catering for the wedding party was amazing and so this can only be a good sign for the usual restaurants!

Overall our experience was amazing and we would gladly recommend this hotel to anyone!

Myself and my husband had our wedding reception at this hotel new years eve. Firstly to comment on the wedding planning, the service provided by Jackie Day was exceptional. We planned the wedding from Australia which could have been difficult but Jackie made it easy. From the suppliers list, to the numerous emails Jackie answered right through to the big day. Highly recommended for stress free wedding planning with top service.

Secondly the hotel staff were fantastic. They were highly accommodating to all of our guests. The porter even drove guests to Pat Shorts the day after and collected them. The staff helped Unload and repack the cars also. Nothing was an issue.

The food was exceptional. We ate in the hotel the day day before and the golf club the day after. Both were of top standard. The food the day of the wedding was amazing.

The room was beautiful. We had suite two which was beautiful, it even had a sauna. Our parents were more than happy with the junior suite and all the guests commented on the standard of their rooms.

The spa was great. The ladies had sparty the day before which consisted of afternoon tea and a private room with a jacuzzi and sauna. We had back massages which were lovely, the beds were even heated. The spa did a great job on the wedding party make up the day of the wedding also. Aoife and her team couldn't have done enough for us. The spa facilities were great for pure relaxation.

My husband and co played golf the day before the wedding. The course was enjoyed by all who played.

All in all it was an unforgettable stay. It was refreshing to stay in a five star hotel with five star service where the staff are expetionally nice. All our guests had similar comments and all intend to return as do we.

A big thank you to all at the Castlemartyr Resort.

My husband, daughters (aged 9 and 7) and I spent three nights here between Christmas and New Year. We had a wonderful time but there were certain small issues which would have me question the Hotel's five star status. Before I begin, let me say that this is not a post-stay rant. I did bring all these matters to the attention of the various Duty Managers during the course of our stay.

A lovely suite but not quite large enough for a family of 4. Only one bed was made-up in the living room when we arrived. The second twin bed was quickly assembled but space was tight. We had to request more hangars as only 4 were provided. In the course of our stay, the power supply to our kettle and bedsides disappeared. We were provided with extension leads.

The blackout curtain in the living room was dangling hookless in spots.

I found the hi-tech lighting a nuisance. It was all or nothing. Corner lamps could not be used without the main ceiling lights too. The controls were on my side of the bed so my husband had to scramble about in the dark to switch off his reading light after I'd gone to sleep.

A small grumble but a carpet or rug underfoot would have been welcome. The wood floor throughout was cold and didn't help with sound absorption

A number of the TV channels listed were unavailable - kids channels particularly.

In-room movies were Euro 12 a pop.

As mentioned, space was an issue. I expected a largish bathroom and a double sink but the bathroom was small - too small given there were 4 of us. The shower leaked under the shower door and the loo roll holder was completely broken. The bath plug hole was also broken and strong fingers were required to root it out!

A newspaper was to be provided every morning. It wasn't. Not once though our neighbours were more fortunate.

Despite numerous phone calls, room service breakfast menus were never provided so we had to ring our orders in.

The Hotel bar was closed to residents from 2-5 to accommodate Wedding guests.

The bar food evening menu was extremely limited.

Service throughout out our stay varied from excellent to haphazard. On one occasion, my request for coffee in the bar was almost aborted. First came the coffee. Some time later the sugar and 10 minutes later, a spoon!

Absolute praise to George the Porter. He's a gent.

The kids tea was great value but the food was pretty dreadful. A sausage roll and chips one evening.

The pool and spa - gorgeous.

The restaurant - terrific.

Overall, a really super stay and we hope to return subject to a bigger room being provided.

Golf course looked great will be on the agenda for next time. Super evening relaxing, dining and amazing music after dinner with the local musicians bringing a relaxed feeling to the evening, enjoyed by all young and old. Nice staff, professional and friendly. We will definitely return and want to take the dogs for a walk!
