We have traveled a lot to see whales and decided to do this knowing our chances of seeing anything were small. Nic is a very pleasant captain/marine mammal expert and he kept us entertained while we searched for and found common dolphin, quite a few, two fin whales and a minke whale. It was an excellent day with nice water and a cool NW wind.
Dress warmly and enjoy a day out on the water with Nic. Never know what you might see!

I went out yesterday at 12 and returned at just after 6pm. It was a lovely day, if a bit chilly. We knew from the start that there was no guarantee of seeing whales as it was pointed out to us that these were wild animals and we weren’t going to a Zoo! As it turned out we didn’t see any whales, despite Nic’s best efforts to find them. However, we did see the large grey seals hauled out and sunbathing on the rocks. We also had the lovely experience of short beaked, common dolphins, swimming and playing around, under and in front of the boat. Nick himself interacted all the time with his passengers giving us various bits of information, when appropriate. On the way back we had a three quarter hour stop on the lovely Cape Clear for either refreshments or simply to wander at our leisure. The icing on the cake would have been to get a whale sighting and although I’m sure we were all disappointed not to achieve this, the tranquility and beauty of the trip was food for the soul.

We went out with Nic over the August Bank Holiday and had a brilliant experience. There was quite a thick mist hanging around so before we boarded the boat, Nic gave us the option of pulling out of the trip which I thought was very professional. Thankfully we didn't as it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon/evening in the end. Unfortunately we didn't see any whales (which was explained would be a possibility from the very start) but we did see numerous pods of dolphins which were absolutely amazing. Nic is extremely entertaining and was able to answer all of our questions. The views from the boat were absolutely beautiful as well. We were out on the water for approximately 4 hours so I would recommend bringing lots of layers as it can go from warm to freezing in the space of 5 minutes when you are out on the water. I'd also recommend bringing some snacks and drinks in case you get hungry. Overall it was a brilliant day and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something to do in the West Cork area.

Disappointing despite a pleasant skipper. We were advised that the sea was ‘a bit lumpy’ before going out and quite rightly it was very heavy with big swells. It would have been difficult to eat any of the food advised to bring during the journey. Everyone donned good life jackets and the Voyager went out together with a smaller catamaran that my group was on.
Three of the 12 people on board were unwell, one woman vomiting every half hour. Both she and her partner got drenched early on so she was really quite miserable.
I don’t mind rough seas but I didn’t anticipate that we would be traveling on it from 2.15 to 6.50, nearly 5 hours. The stop at Cape Clear included in the excursion was abandoned (‘We do try and stop at North Harbour on Cape Clear Island for a refreshment break half way through the tour’, ... ‘tours take around 4 hours, sometimes a little longer as we do stop at North Harbour on Cape Clear Island for refreshments half way through the tour’ ) no doubt with reasonable cause but it would have been nice if details of the plan were communicated during the journey.
We eventually found a dolphin pod which was lovely but most people seemed a little subdued, (sick and cold despite warm clothing ) to really enjoy them.
The skipper was busy managing the boat so there was an air of silence about the excursion. It would have been appropriate if he had engaged publicly throughout via a microphone..communicating about the weather conditions, the travel plan, the topography or the wildlife. For tourists it would have been interesting to point out landmarks like the Fastnet visible in the distance for instance or the breed of dolphins we saw. It would have made a big difference in the quality of the tour.

. We took our grand-daughter for a day's whale-watching with Nic. We had a fabulous experience. We spotted quite a few Minke Whales and Harbour Porpoises but the highlight were the hundreds of Dolphins that we encountered. They gave us such a fantastic show, diving and jumping around the boat. Nic is such a great guy. He is full of knowledge and didn't mind answering our questions. He even let our grand-daughter drive the boat! Thanks a million Nic. Wishing you continued success . Linda

Such a brilliant experience to watch dolphins, whales and seals out in Baltimore Co.Cork. This was part of our south west wild Atlantic journey where just worth to call in for a sea safari. Thanks for whalewatchwestcork and Nic who guided us with great knowledge!

We really looked forward to this trip and were not disappointed- we set off from Baltimore harbour on a beautiful morning with the sea like a millpond. Nic gave a running commentary and filled us with interesting facts about the sea creatures we might come across. In the end we saw lots of common dolphins, sea birds and Minke whales which were moving slowly in the distance. It was a wonderful experience and made even more interesting by Nic’s enthusiasm and knowledge. The glorious weather contributed to a great morning out at sea.

Took the afternoon trip 3pm with our two boys age 3 and 6. The most memorable day we ever had holidaying in Ireland. Mum and dad have lived in Asia, Africa, Canada, Australia yet neither of us has experienced anything like this.15 nautical miles offshore and we are surrounded by a world of dolphins, monkey, humpback whales. And I mean surrounded. Our boys thought they were in a zoo with hundreds of common dolphins, dozens of minke whales, and plenty of humpbacks showing off their flukes. It was like whale and dolphin city for about two hours. Amazing.

If you come to within 100 miles of Baltimore this is a must do, Nic sets an extremely high bar for a stimulating day out. The highest compliment I could give would be to say that had we seen nothing at all you could still have a great time listening to Nic who could certainly have his own TV show.

We saw some beautiful sights of sea mammals in their own environment untroubled by our presence (as it should be!), the common dolphin makes a point of coming to say hello, amongst the other in laws making an appearance were Minky whales and Atlantic seals.

Summary: Inspiring, charismatic and great company, Nic wasn't bad either! :-)
