I liked the way the place was so quiet and as it's a Gaeltacht area which is pretty cool as it's one of the Irish speaking places Great restaurant there too !

I have been to cape clear twice. Once on a glorious sunny day when the sun was splitting the stones and there was barely a whisper from roaring water bay on the crossing. The other time was in a full swell. Happilly on both occasions I greatly enjoyed my visit to this quixotic outpost. Man's struggle againt nature to continue living here is very evident from the grow your own gardens to the gaelteacht houses throughout. Of all the islands in Ireland, in some ways this one is the most modern and backward, interesting and nondescript all at once. The views of the bay on the way out including fastnet rock are marvellous.

We had a great time on this gem of an island. The views were spectacular and the people very friendly.

My wife, our four-year-old and I went to the island during some pretty bad weather, with very high winds and near continuous rain but still managed to have a very enjoyable time thanks largely to Sally and her yurts. We took the whale-watching boat over which was our only mistake. It's not that I begrudge the fact that we saw nothing, if you don't count a few gulls, but we were forced to pay the full fare, which was far from cheap, even though Nic, the boat owner, decided to cancel the second part of our experience.
The yurts are part of what is a fairly basic campsite positioned on a site with wonderful views across the harbour. They are perched on a cliff with only a mesh screen in place of a fence so be careful if you're bringing small children. The yurts themselves have room for a number of beds, a wood-burning stove which gives off an amazing amount of heat and a gas cooker with four rings and a grill. There also a enough pots, cutlery and accoutrements to make a good dinner, which I reccommend because food on the island is limited. We stocked up at the English Market in Cork and we were very gald we did because the shop was shut on Sunday and the pub did not open until 6.00pm.
What made our trip was Sally. She picked up our luggage, charged tne ipad to help us entertain our child, provided the towels we forgot and supplied copious amounts of wood for our stove. Given that the weather marooned us in our yurt this was a great boon. We did brave the gale-force wind and rain to trek to the lighthouse which was well worthwhile. In short this is a beautiful island with great scenery and the yurts are a great experience.
