5 Clare Dingy Sailors from Cullaun Sailing Club returned for 2 days sailing with Eddie aboard the Holy Grounder to complete the Day Skipper Course.
Eddie was there at 7pm on Friday to greet us allowing us time to plan our pilotage for the weekend.
That evening we motored up to Belvelly Channel to experience a peaceful dusk.
Winds for the weekend were forecast light, sea breezes kick in the afternoon with the Holy Grounder reaching 8 knots off Roches Point

Eddie was keeping us on out toes with multiple tacks, gybes and a few man over board drills.
We all have enjoyed our training with Eddie and hopefully we will get some more time to sail on bigger boats this year.

We had the right ingredients for a truly enjoyable weekend with Eddie’s knowledge of sailing, Cork Harbour, The Holy Grounder and great weather.

We are looking forward to racing with Eddie in October, White Sail Series from the Royal Cork Yacht Club.

Last weekend on the June Bank holiday 5 sailors from Cullaun Sailing club descended into east Ferry for a weekend sailing course. We sailed around Cork harbour on Friday night and did a few manouveres. Cork Harbour is a hive of activity and there is a lot to be learnt with the lights and the lighting sequence around the harbour. On saturday morning we practiced our berthing and coming alongside before departing to Kinsale with the help of a north westerly breeze. Sunday morning we sailed back up to Crosshaven where we stayed for a while and later onto Cobh and moored there.

Monday Morning about 730 the independence of the seas( largest Cruiser ship in the world at this time) took their mooring no more than 100 metres away from us and it was a sight to behold. the rest of monday was taken up with more sailing tasks from Man Over Board to Reefing, Jiving and sailing at different points to the wind. after a quick tour to Spike island we took it in turns to head back to Sailcork.com's home in East Ferry. All this time we were honing and improving our sailing skills under the watchful eye of Eddie English. We had a great a weekend where we eat, drank and sailed a lot.

This was a great weekend for us as it was part of the day skipper and competent crew certification. As mainly dinghy sailors we needed to improve our yachting skills as we intend chartering a boat at the end of the summer. Eddie English was a good instructor and gave us plenty of time to study the tides, weather and plan our course We have another weekend coming up in July to finish the course and are looking forward to it immensely

As other crew have reported, this was a fabulous voyage. Extremely well organised by Eddie and Jo (not sure who was the real skipper!), wonderful weather (mostly), great crew, wonderful sights and experiences, great sailing and even better lobster dinners in the different islands (Bequia, Union, Mayreau, Tobago Cays). An excellent antidote to the bleak Irish winter. Already planing for the 2014 voyage.

I have been sailing with Sail Cork in the Caribbean for the last 5 trips they are always superb. The whole experience is always meticulously planned and the skills of both Eddie and Jo as a team are awesome.Regardless of the sailing experience of the crews everyone is always comfortable and always enjoys each and every day.
This was my first trip to the windward Islands and once again Eddie had done his planning and we saw all the best places together with just right sailing. The crew were all great fun and we all bonded instantly, I heard some jokes from this crowd which I'd love to share but would be too shy! Anyway Roches Point rules apply, what goes on tour stays on tour !
From the Lobster party on the beach at Tobago Cays to the "take over" of the music in the New York Bar! Cant wait till next year.Liam O'R

The Grenadines Feb 2013

My husband and I joined SailCork for a cruising week in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Skipper Eddie and his lovely wife Jo took care of all the travel arrangements and there was no pressure on us to do any preparatory work that is required regarding pilotage planning etc. prior to sailing in turquoise waters. All that was required by us was to turn up and help check our 44’ Benateau and get involved in arranging food supplies. The trip went seamlessly and everything went according to our Skipper’s plan. The crew on board had varying experience of sailing but all were hands on and willing to help out. It was obvious from the success of the trip that Sail Cork had done their homework on the best Islands to visit and the most interesting sailing routes. It was a fantastic experience, a great crew and for us a sailing holiday of a lifetime. We hope to again join Sail Cork for their next trip to the Caribbean.
