“Best €99 we spent on our trip...”
Reviewed June 3, 2010

After 3 nights of camping we were looking for a B&B for the last night of our holiday. Came across the Maritime Hotel and were quoted the price of €99 for a double room, including breakfast. We were a little unsure as it was much more than we were planning on spending but the receptionist (Eilish) assured us that it would be the best €99 we'd spent on the trip. She was right - we were expecting a normal hotel room and got a massive suite with a separate lounge, dining area, two flat screen TVs, a large balcony and sea view. Everything was done really nicely in the hotel and we were thrilled. There are a few drawbacks - the hotel's lift system is complicated and seemed to be causing everyone problems, and getting in and out of the car park is a small nightmare. Breakfast was generous and the pool, sauna and steam room were good - not the best but far from the worst.

Arrived to checkin and got key and proceeded to underground carpark. The entrance is too tight and troublesome. Took lift from basement to our floor (2nd). Lift from 2nd floor to Lobby OK but from Lobby to 2nd floor may require you get off on 1st floor and walk to another lift, depending on your room number. Rather confusing. Room was just big enough to avoid being cramped. Appeared clean and tidy but found dried blood on a pillowcase. Drinking water was in a bottle but was not replaced unless completely empty. Dinner in the Ocean Restaurant was very nice and the staff were very helpful. Breakfast was Buffet Style, Cold (various meats and cheeses) or Hot (Full Irish ingredients) or order from the menu, pancakes, etc. Also lots of fruit and cereals & freshly baked breads. Located just off the Town Square, near several Restaurants and shops (beware Supervalu whose sign said closing at 10pm but they shut the door in our faces on our arrival at 8.06pm).

Great location, decor was lovely and service excellent. Small issues included the inconvenience of using two lifts to get around the hotel, and a slight delay in service at breakfast. Also we were given a normal double room, but the bed was quite small for a tall man - we inquired as to whether there might be any larger beds and were accomodated immediately in a much more comfortable room. The pool area and leisure centre staff could not be faulted, always very friendly. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and we hope to return.

Superb hotel in a superb location. We have stayed in quite a number of hotels in West Cork and this is by far the best one and it's great value for money.

just back after a 2 night stay in the maritime hotel in bantry, really disappointed with the 1 bedroom suite as the children had to sleep on a sofa bed which was very uncomfortable and had to be made up everyday, car park was underground and not very secure, swimming pool was very cold, the selection of food on the bar menu was poor, the breakfast was very nice. just be carefull as you are charged €12.00 for the movie channel, and also you are charged for the internet

After a short trip on Friday after work from Cork city, we arrived at the Fabulous Maritime Hotel, 3 couples for a two night break. Check in was efficient and staff were friendly and welcoming. Rooms were contemporary and beautifully decorated, with lovely views of the bay. Great food especially the breakfast selection of local produce. Good craic and live entertainment in the bar Saturday night. Spent Sunday morning recovering in the jacuzzi and sauna in the excellent leisure centre. Looking forward to going back for a family break for the next mid-term. Got great value on a family suite.

We satyed in the Hotel for 2 nights. Reception could at best be described as tolerable. No assistance with baggage and very disinterested front of house staff. We discussed whether to move on the next day, but decided to stay put.
I rang the hotel on my return home and was given the standard Irish Answer for complaints. If I had said something They would have made a deduction on my bill. They fail to see the point that I had already paid, and I didn't want a reduction. We just wanted what we asked for, and that's all. We even ended up making our own bed. Never, ever again.
