We walked the peakeen ridge walk and closed the loop throught he cahergal loop to come back to our starting point. The peakeen ridge is amazing with views on both the beara and mizen peninsula and the top of the sheep's head. It tops at 318m so it's not a very difficult walk even if of course you need appropiate footwear.

Beautiful drive but you can't get right to the end by car. To do that you have to walk on a rough path for about a mile and a half and walking boots are advisable. There is a café selling drinks and sandwiches by the small car park at the end but didn't use it.

Well worth the trip from Bantry. The walk from the café to the Lighthouse is a bit demanding over hilly terrain, but very rewarding with the views that you see at the headland. Refreshments are very welcome on arrival back at the café. The walk to the lighthouse took abut 30 minutes each way.

I live here so I'm biased! The Sheep's Head Walks are denoted in a Guide and for moderately competent walkers it is a joy to behold, both from the North side looking out over Bantry Bay and islands or to the South over Dunmanus Bay, with The Mizen & Mount Gabriel. There is a walk right at the end which looks down on a lighthouse.

The Sheepshead is a quiet place between some more visited areas of West Cork and all the better for it. The drives and views are beautiful and there is a sense of remoteness and peace all around. The locals are genuinely welcoming and if you are the kind to take a book and sit a while just enjoying the peace, this is definitely the place for you. If you can manage the walk out to the light house it is more than worth it but if not, stop and have a cuppa in the lovely little cafe beside the car park for a lovely local welcome
