Great place to stay. Amazing view out over Bantry Bay. Wonderful welcome from Sophie and baby Jacob. A little piece of history and so quite and peaceful at night time.

My sister and brother-in-law chose this stunning location for their wedding.

Following a beautiful wedding ceremony at St Finbarr’s Oratory in Gougane Barra the reception was held at Bantry House.

I was one of a privileged number of the wedding party who enjoyed a 2 night stay in the superb guest house accommodation.

The bedrooms were elegant and the atmosphere was one of total relaxation. The breakfast was excellent with everything you could possibly wish for and more.

I cannot imagine anywhere more perfect to hold a wedding reception; the library was a beautiful setting with its candlelit candelabra and marvellous paintings.

Many thanks to Sophie and her family and staff for their wonderful hospitality which made a special weekend absolutely perfect!

We stayed here in June for one night and wished it was more. There is so much to write. First, the House itself is a myriad of personal artefacts from all over the world, owned by all decendents from the 1st Earl of Bantry. The present owners run the House and couldn't be nicer. It's far removed from the typical Big Houses run by Heritage trusts etc-it is far more personal and therefore magical. The guest entrance is just off Bantry main street so it is really close to town but it's a private walkway only for guests which adds magic to the place. You literally disappear into the Kingdom!
The Gardens are magnificent and the website doesn't do it justice. As other reviewers wrote, the beds are fantastic, I found it hard to do anything as I completely unwound here. The bedroom was very big , with a view of the majestic gardens to the front, and a window seat to read with views to the stables at the back. The bathroom was modern and luxurious, with robes provided. Breakfast was assorted fruit, breads, cold cuts and Irish breakfast etc. We were only one of three couples staying here. There is a small private area for guests only with two sofas, small library, roaring fire and a snooker room with honesty bar adjacent to this. We had the whole place completely to ourselves. I spent the evening in front of the fire with a couple of books sipping wine and my partner tested his skills at snooker for a few hours. Hard to beat this kind of privacy and relaxation. Better than any spa break!

The experience of staying In Bantry House cannot be reflected by traditional star rating systems- this really is more than a country House with rooms, it is like being welcomed into a family heritage of bygone time. The family still own the house and it is a real family hands on business, they are very much in evidence and so despite the fact the house is a rich historical preservation open for tours you are made to feel very welcome and at one with the house. The rooms are immaculately presented in pale greens and white linen, bathrooms high modern spec, the breakfast room is yet another treat. The breakfast table is set with family crested crockery , bone spoons ans antique dishes. There is a full range of local cheeses and meats, soda breads, oven hot scones and croissants, fresh chopped fruits and yogurts, and honey on the comb from the hives on the estates. The cooked breakfast included local produce sausages etc but we had the kipper fillets and organic eggs. I should add that all this was on offer to us despite the fact we were virtually the only guests staying . The location is 10 minutes walk into the village. It is dark so would recommend a taxi back if you are planning a late night out- it is only around 5 euros. Other surprises for us included the private billiards room, open fires and honesty bar open to use as late as we wished. All in all this was an amazing treat and one we will plan to repeat next year.

Bantry House was an exquisite stay. The house and grounds are beautiful -as is the view -and staying was an quite an experience. The rooms of the house which are open to the public are stunning and include an array of original and historic furnishings. The guest rooms are in a wing and very nice, although not period in decor. The highlight of our stay was due to our host who (since the B&B was not oerly busy), lit the two fireplaces in the main library and invited us to enjoy it for the evening. We did so (after a game of snooker downstairs), and had an incredible time listening to my daughter play the grand piano (you are asked to request permission) in the wonderful accoustics of the library. I almost felt as if I belonged.

This was the most amazing place we stayed the whole trip. The size of the rooms we toured was mind boggeling. Have read of such things in books but to realy see the size and grandure of it in person is a once in a lifetime experience. The gardens are also very nice and can imagine how beautiful it all must be in the spring

We had the wedding of our dreams in Bantry House this September. Thank you so much Kate! The house and setting is like something out of a fairytale. The staff are fantastic and very accommodating. This is a dream location for a wedding or vow renewals. We all stayed over as well and the B&B accommodation is beautiful. The breakfast in the morning is the best in Ireland! This place is not to be missed!
