Owner description: Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

Beautiful House and Garden in a magical setting. Visit if you can- they allow photography and it has a great feel about the whole place.

“Bantry House is a great place to visit”
Reviewed July 31, 2007

We were in Ireland for a two week vacation in June the weather was very Irish! We happened to visit Bantry house just to get out of the rain, and oh what a find the whole place has such an atmosphere you get a real feeling of lived in history
It was still raining when we had finished our tour and had a great cup of tea and a home made cake in the tea room. I think we'll leave the gardens to our next visit , we'll be back.

“Overpriced, noth worth the money”
Reviewed May 12, 2007

Visited Bantry house in April 2007. The entrance fee for house, gardens and exhibition was EURO 8, which I think was far too much. The house was pretty run down and needs major renovation and the exhibition was not interesting at all. The gardens were nothing special and the tea room at 1.30 pm had already run out of sandwiches. The tea room did look nice though and the house was in a beautiful location, but that are the only positive things I can think of.
Conclusion: Not worth a visit
