“A gem of a place in a beautiful part of the world”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2011

A restaurant / cafe, delicatessan, specialist local (and continental) food lover's heaven where there is room to sit down, talk to the owners (who show a passion and real knowledge of nearly everything they sell) and sample their suggestions. We sat down for a meat and cheese board for lunch, were convinced to have a glass of wine and were joined by the person who made the cheese we were eating by the end of lunch - a local who was dropping off his order! This place is an Aladdin's Cave of food, snacks, wine, locally grown coffee (! - the local blend they sell in expertly made capuccinos, lattes - you name it) and many other delights. Brilliant place, attention to detail excellent and the owners couldn't have been friendlier - rock n' Manning's Emporium roll!!!

“Manning's is on our list of "Must Stop" places when in County Cork”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2011

I've stopped at Manning's over the years and from the first moment I met Val, the owner, we hit it off. Start off with a selection of Irish cheese, whereby Val will tell you the type of cheese, where it's made in Ireland and then you set off enjoying the texture and flavor of each. Stop inside for a bottle of wine -- great selection from all over and well priced.

This particular visit, it was raining and stopped in for a quick visit -- which lasted more than 3 hours and 5 bottles of wine. Val sat down and kept us entertained, sipping away the wine and we laughed... outside, under the awning and loving it.

“A True Gem !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2010

Mannings Food Emporium is a true gem in a beautiful location in west Cork . Val, Laura and Andrew are the perfect example of Irish hospitality and are always cheerful, polite and so helpful in advising you on what to try for example what glass (or bottle) of wine to have with their wonderful variety of largely local produce. Mannings is not your run of the mill establishment which is very refreshing and no request seems to be a problem. In fact they seem to welcome a challenge . I would advise to arrive there hungry and ask for a cheese board with some local bread, sweet garlic, pesto, honey, sun blushed tomatoes, cherizo, dried beef and some organic lemonade if you are driving and can't indulge in a glass of wine. Even if you cannot finish your food , the staff would only be too happy to wrap it for you to take home. O.k I'm starving now so will sign off ! Bain taitneamh as (enjoy it)

“Good Irish food, good shop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2010

Mannings is a fantastic spot to get some shopping and lunch if you are driving from Glengarriff to Bantry. They stock lots of local cheeses, breads and cakes, make good coffee and serve lovely wine. You can sit outside and read the days papers and enjoy a scone and tea or had a cold deli plate and a glass of wine - at pretty reasonable prices. Worth a stop!

“Excellent source of artisan West Cork cheeses, meats, chocolate, wine, etc etc etc”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2010

A great little spot which we wandered into by sheer accident. The owners Andrew and Laura were extremely friendly and a great source of information on things to do in West Cork. The food on offer was of equal quality. But take note that this is a deli style operation which also offers plates of food, rather than a full restaurant. That said, the platter of local cheeses, local salamis, salads and cold veg that we ate was hearty and filling - and very tasty. There is a good wine selection, and proper coffee etc. We revisited the place the following evening and they kept it open past normal closing time (9pm) especially for us. As in we didn't arrive until after 9pm. Merely because we were in a bit of a bind as regards finding somewhere to eat at that hour. So we phoned Manning's to check their hours. They went out of their way to help us out and that kind of personal touch is pretty unusual even amongst the surfeit of quality places to eat in West Cork. Highly recommended.
