“A Food Haven in West Cork”
Reviewed August 14, 2010

We have eaten in all the main restaurants in this area and have often been disappointed by the overpriced meal of a poor standard with indifferent service. Willie Pa's is different: exceptional value, wonderful cooking of high quality local ingredients. Service is outstanding from the welcome to the warm farwell. The manager/owner is witty and funny whilst delivering a seamless service. This is a very popular restaurant with the locals and booking is advisable as we saw many people being sent away. We enjoyed a variety of dishes all to a highstandard. The bass and crab was delicious, beef fillet correctly cooked and a good size. The local duck is highly recommended. Make sure to leave room for the fantastic puddings (definitely a pastry chef in the kichen here). Highly reccommend the tasting plate.
You will not get anthing better in this area to enjoy a similar experience you will need to travel to Packies in Kenmare

“Such a find....”
Reviewed July 13, 2010

On a recent trip to Bantry with friends for a weekend we stopped on the way home in Willie Pa's. We had reservations and luckily so as the restaurant was very busy. For a restaurant outside of town it was busy.
Everything about our visit and lunch was perfect. They even made our 2 year old feel welcome which is difficult! The food was excellent, well served, hot and in season. The restaurant was very comfortable and well laid out.
The manager was particularly welcoming and appreciative of the business. We will definitely return again

“A real gem in west cork”
Reviewed July 12, 2010

I dont have anything bad to say about this hidden gem. We ate here in a group of 4 and everyone's experience down to the last detail was top notch
Firstly the staff were extremely friendly, warm and welcoming. The bar and restaurant are spotless and tables are well spaced out so you don't feel as though you are squashed in and listening to other people's converstions.
The menu has an extensive choice of meats/ fish/ veggies/ soups/ salads cheeses with a focus on locally produced foods. The portion sizes are generous and cooked to perfection. Between our party of four we had black pudding/goats cheese and apple, homemade pate and deep fried brie to start - no complaints there! For mains we had fillet steaks- large chunky fillets cooked perfectly, turbot and scallops with a selection of sides- (at no extra cost). The selection of desserts topped off our experience, with the trio of creme brulee coming out my favourite!
The wine we left for the restaurant manager to pick and he did a fantastic job.
In the end it was the bill that surprised us all- prices being extremely realistic and proving great value for money.
The atmosphere was great- alot of the diners seemed local and seemed to know the staff very well. The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly while maintaining a level of professionalism also.
We will defo be back and we'll let everyone know that willie pa's is really the only place to eat in West Cork :)

“One of the best meals I've had in years!”
Reviewed November 2, 2009

I went to Willie Pa's with a very large group of friends (20+) and we were all very impressed with the food, service and atmosphere. There was a great selection on the menu and I'd go back down there tomorrow if it wasn't a long drive away from me! Starters were lovely, nice sizes - not tiny but not too filling either, main courses were served with gorgeous roast potatoes, and dessert was amazing. I've eaten in other restaurants around Ireland with similar prices (we paid €40ish each including wine) but I thought this was just brilliant value for money because of the quality of the food. The service was really good too, and there was absolutely no problem when I asked for my main course to be cooked differently to the menu option. It was by far the best meal I've had anywhere in Cork in a long time, and I'm just looking for an excuse to head to Bantry - or anywhere nearish, just to go back here again.

“A hidden gem!!!”
Reviewed October 16, 2009

Whilst meeting up with a few friends in Bantry, we were recommended to eat in (rather oddly named) Willie Pa's by quite a few locals (not least the opinionated taxi driver who swears all the local people eat there!!!) So off we went to the a** end of nowhere to a restuarant with oodles of charm. From the time we stepped in the front door we were welcomed like long lost friends by the capable manager. We were made to feel right at home by all the staff and the atmosphere of the restuarant was so warm and relaxed. It has a spacious dining area so it can cater for small or large groups (indeed a 40th birthday bash was well underway when we got there, however, rather than being rowdy it was quite entertaining!!! The food was absolutely delicious, the seafood chowder is so chunky and creamy it was certainly the best we had ever tried, and the brushetta was equally tasty, however, this was overshadowed by the fillet steak - melt in the mouth does not do it justice. At the end of the night (and quite a few bottles of wine later!) we were stuffed and contented, and pleasantly surprised at how little the bill came to. Cant rate this restuarant high enough, definately the best we have tried in Ireland! Its such a pity we didnt discover this sooner (O'Connors should be re-named O'rip off!!!!) Will definately be back Mal, you can count on it!!!
