We re-visited this hotel in May - bank holiday weekend for the Bay Run. We used the special offer from SuperValu when booking as it seemed very good value. We were allocated a room a fair distance from the reception area and it seemed as if this section was just re-opened for the Summer season- at least we hope so!. We had a few issues with our room and when I asked to be moved to another, at first I was told to come back later and the receptionist would see what she could do. When I explained what the problem was and produced the evidence, we were allocated another room straight away. We were ok with this. It was a pity this problem arose and it will certainly influence our decision as to whether we'll return. The staff are the saving grace for this hotel - very friendly restaurant and bar staff. If they accept bookings from runners taking part in the Bay Run , it would be a nice gesture if breakfast could be earlier on Sun morning!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel.

We are very sorry about your origional room and we are glad that you came to us with your issue and we could move you to a more satisfactory room. Thank you for complimenting our staff, we are very proud of our team here as staff is the main thing for our hotel, we are like a large family! We will take your suggestion about earlier breakfast into careful consideration for future events, but we do cater for groups that would like to eat early at their request.

We hope to see you again in the near future,

Stayed with family on the supervalu break offer, rooms are old fashioned to say the least, the pool is the thing that sold it for us really and the offer price. With a major cash boost id say it would be a 1st class hotel, especially a wedding venue. There are lovely grounds to have a wander in,play tennis, football, have a picnic etc.Seems to be alot of empty, unused function rooms at the hotel which is a shame. We had food at the bar and also breakfast which was plentyful and fresh.Overall a good 3star hotel .Staff were very nice.

Dear Janeanne,

Thank you for your comments and for taking the time to review our hotel.

We are in the process of doing up our rooms and we hope that in the near future they will be first class. We take great pride in our leisure facilities, we are glad that you enjoyerd them.
We are doing our best to reach the potential that the glorious grounds and the building has to offer. All of our rooms are being currently used for various different activities, they may have looked empty as we try not to clutter them. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the food here and also that you found the staff to be very nice as that is the main thing here in the hotel.

Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

This hotel is very old and very tired! The "Family Room" we stayed in, was a standard room, with extra beds squashed into an already cramped space. The beds were uncomfortable, very old and very saggy in the middle. The rooms were located in what seemed to be an extension of an extension and so it was a long walk to the hotel lobby and restaurant. The grounds were lovely, though don't bother packing your tennis racket for the long abandoned tennis court! The staff were polite and helpful, mostly. The food was fine, nothing special but ok for the money. The leisure club is the best part of the Westlodge hotel. The pool, sauna, steam room, showers and changing rooms were all of a high standard -just be careful to take note of the opening hours particularly if children want a swim. As the hotel seemed busy and business seemed good when we were there (June), I don't understand why it hasn't been modernised? We had an ok stay but wouldn't be in any hurry back due to the state of the bedrooms.

Hi Hilary,

Thank you for your very honest opinions.

We are working towards getting our bedrooms done, sooner rather than later. We are also working on a seperate entrance for that section of rooms that you had been in to reduce the travel time to them. The Tennis Court is in great condition and would be very popular with guests and gets quite a bit of usage. And thank you for the positive comments about our leisure centre.

All of your comments I take on board and use them only as ways to improve our product. Thank you again and I hope we will see you again and that you will notice a change to the hotel.

Kind Regards,

We have just come back from a 2-night break in the Pondlodge Cottages at the Westlodge Hotel and I would definitely recommend them for families. There were four of us, two adults and two children, 9 and 7. The cottage itself was small, but a lot bigger than a hotel room, so we had plenty of room for the kids to play or to watch a dvd on the laptop in their room while we sat in the living area in the evenings. The rooms were spotless and we had everything we needed as far as utensils, etc was concerned. We also made good use of the swimming pool in the hotel, which the children loved and which was clean and well maintained, as well as the football field on the grounds near the cottages. There was a tennis court too, if we'd had more time to avail of it. We were lucky to be there for probably the nicest day so far this year weatherwise, so Bantry was looking great and the views from the hotel grounds were stunning. There's a nice walk down to a sea lake on the grounds, which I enjoyed while the boys played football on Saturday afternoon in the sun. Bantry House next door is well worth a visit too, especially if you can use Tesco points to get money off the cost of entry! Any hotel staff member we met was friendly and helpful and the reception area of the hotel was pleasant and comfortable looking. If we went again, we would definitely stay longer, as it's quite a hike from Dublin and there's so much to see and do in the Bantry area, but the Pondlodge Cottages would definitely be where we'd stay. Thanks to all involved.

Room Tip: The cottages were quiet during our stay, but close together, so could potentially be a little noisy...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for a very positive review.

Its great to hear that you all enjoyed our Pondlodge Cottages. They are ideal for family's with like you said, so much for the kids to do around the grounds and hotel. Good to hear too that you all made good use of our leisure centre and also that you found all staff to be friendly and helpful as this is the main thing about our hotel here, we are a big family!

Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

We went to this hotel in Xmas 2012. We have 2 young kids 5&7 years old and we were made feel at home.the staff are very good with kids and kept them amused while we had a quiet drink. Food was also excellent with a good choice from the menu. I noticed the reception area has been done up recently and I believe the bedrooms will be done up over time which need some modernizing. We are hoping to visit here again over easter and look forward to using the nice leisure centre which also has 2 kids pools. If your into walking we would recommend visiting either the sheep's head or allihies.enjoy.
