“Lovely food, just very slow ( but very very pleasant) service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

Ate here today, fab Philly steak sandwich with fries (for €8.95) n a beautiful salad which was great value. The coffee was lovely too. Really pleasant staff, the only let down was the speed of the service. It took us 25-30mins to be served which wasted a lot of our lunch hour. On the up side the meal was great, the (real) fries were really really good. If they could speed up the service I'd def go back.

“Massive potential...Please sort your toilets out!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

I haven't eaten in this restaurant though I've heard the food is ok but the service is slow. I have drank here a few times because I was attending friends parties here and had to show the girl serving me where the drink I wanted was in the fridge was after she told me they didn't sell that drink. Every time I have been to this bar in the last 2 months the toilets are disgraceful. In the main ladies one of the toilets has been locked for a few months apparently its broken, maybe that is what is causing the horrendous smell every time we go there. Another of the toilets has a broken light blub which hasn't been changed over the last few months. That leaves one toilet which has not had toilet paper any time we have been there and it hasn't been busy every time. The bar is known locally for having these disgusting toilets which should be enough for the people running it to think about sorting these problems out. This is a lovely bar with massive potential if run efficiently. If the public areas i.e. the toilets aren't kept clean and hygienic I dread to think of the behind the scenes hygiene. Also having decent staff who know what they are selling and are sufficiently welled trained in what they are doing helps. Please please please get your toilets fixed and keep them well maintained because this place has the potential to be a great place not just an average place.

Management Response from Andrew Loane, Manager at The Eldon Bar, Pizzeria & Grill:

Dear Reviewer (wanderseeker),
Thank you for taking the time to review The Eldon Bar, Pizzeria & Grill. We truly value the opinions of our customers and we apologize that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. Our restroom facilities had been completely renovated in late 2012. There were however some remaining issues from the former layout, all of which have now been resolved. Regular cleaning schedules are also in place to ensure a high standard of maintenance. With regard to our behind the scenes operation, we are fully certified and approved by the HSE and Environmental Health, as would be required by any food business, and we use comprehensive controls to ensure an excellent standard of hygiene.
While we regret that the service you received was not satisfactory, we constantly strive to improve standards and we hope to serve you again in the future.
Kind Regards,
Andrew Loane,
Managing Director

“Good choice but unfortunately the service was poor on our visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

I visited eldons based on the quality of the trip advisor reviews

Eldons has lots of positives

Its located in central location
The bar is very well maintained and would best described as a "real Irish bar"
The food we had on our visit was good - we had garlic breads for starters and pizzas for mains
(The special menus allows for lot of other options which would be considered traditional Irish grub)
The food represents good value

Unfortunately the service was poor by the young lady who served us, but i got the feeling that
service is normally good, there was also a young man working and felt if we got him we would have a different experience(as he popped over to us after we our food had been brought to the table and seemed very pleasant and head a real interest in the business )
The young lady seemed nice but was error prone and didn't seem to have any feel for the job.
We didn't know whether to be angry or bewildered, she forgot part of our order, brought the starters with the mains, didn't come near our table after serving the food etc..
Then when she was clearing the table we told her to leave the fries as we would finish them with our drinks, she said ok and then took them away with the dishes..we just started laughing

Overall I would recommend eldons but they need to ensure all staff is up to scratch

“"Its not chowder its chowdaaaaaa!"”

Lovely uncomplicated fresh food. Amazing chowder. Pizzas are phenominal and made with care. We were there middle of the day so tough to rate atmosphere but definitely worth a look for the food alone!
