We stayed in the Main House for three nights earlier this month. Liss Ard is a special place with a beautiful setting, great location and fascinating scenery. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, the dinners and breakfasts delicious and the staff particularly welcoming and friendly. We truly did feel like family.

This is a work in progress with the extensive property, buildings, gardens, lake and walks. We had a tour with Arthur and were impressed with his affection for the property and his vision of what it can become. While we were there, Liss Ard hosted an evening event as part of the Taste of West Cork Food Festival. It was a terrific chance to meet people from the area, to understand some of their history and opportunities and to enjoy excellent local food.

Guests will find all the creature comforts at Liss Ard, at very reasonable prices, but will also find an experience far beyond the ordinary.

We spent a week at Liss Ard earlier this month. The house is lovely, and situated in beautiful grounds. However, there is still room for improvement; in particular, it was hard to find staff to serve us tea (or even give us some mile) on several occasions, or to check out on the final day, and the dinner menu hardly changed over the week.

We really enjoyed out stay at Liss Ard, we stayed two nights & had massage treatments plus a meal on one night.
Before our visit I found it difficult to get a picture in my head of what the accommodation & overall feel for the property would be from their website. The site was quite vague & even the info sent onto me by email when confirming my booking still left me wondering. Liss Ard has a very relaxed attitude & a lack of formality which we really liked.
Few staff buzzing about but I'm sure should we have needed any help we'd have been well looked after. We stayed in the Lake Lodge (Room 16, fab view!). Quite a stark, modern design room. Floor could do with a varnish & some of the tiles in bathroom were cracked though.
The Lake Lodge is a separate building to the main house, about a 5min drive (very bumpy road). It’s a self catering type set up, you have the run of the lodge, kitchen/sitting rooms etc. Breakfast & dinner, if included in your stay, are taken at the main house.
We were told there was a little path we could take through the woods to get to the main house if we choose not to drive. We tried this but due to the lack of signs we got a bit lost.
The main house is again quite modern in design, very comfortable with an honesty bar available. Several seating areas & overall a nice relaxing feel.
Breakfast was ok, usual cereals, breads, cheese & juices and they also offered a cooked Irish breakfast. I'm a vegi so apart from eggs there wasn’t any cooked option for me. I did ask.
Dinner was nice, expensive, small portions but nice. We enjoyed it & my choc brownie pudding was delicious!
The estate grounds are beautiful, plenty of wild woodland walks to explore. We would happily go back, we'll be wiser next time as to what to expect etc.
Overall, good service, nice grounds and would happily recommend but make sure you know where your accommodation is (main house/garden mews or lodge).

Room Tip: Lake Lodge - ask for rooms looking over the lake itself & not the front of the house if possible...

One of our best weekends away ever. The food at the hotel was only ok and no better than that, but everything else about the hotel was fantastic.

We did bike rides around the area, fishing in the lake and drank wine here and there around the estate :)

We stayed in the Country House as a romantic weekend deal . we got a room in the Garden Mews upstairs ( or GM8) . The room is very spacious , very clean with beautiful views of the gardens.
We had our dinner on the first night in the house. The food is very nice and fresh . Breakfast is absolutely divine, once again with fresh local produces.
The staff are very accommodating . The masseuse ( Magalie ) was also amazing . One of the best massage i had .
We also availed of the kayaks and went for a paddle on the lake. Bicycles are also available for a tour around the gardens if you get lazy walking. Everything is as it says on the website.
There is a bit for everyone, if you want to relax or do some activities.
The communal rooms in the house are very very spacious with fire places in most of them, where you can listen to music or have your coffee and read your newspaper.
.A fabulous place you nearly want to keep it to yourself :)

We visited in August with our 4year old.
Location: this truly is a fine country house and all guests are given the freedom to feel at home in the house. Indeed that is the distinctive aspect of Liss Ard it is very relaxed and low fuss. So this means there are few staff around and instead the principle is that you just treat the place like home - so just go to the rooms you want. Fewer staff I guess helps keep the cost down because this place is great value for money - and the staff are all very helpful.

Great for kids and families as they certainly set out to accommodate kids to a level I've never seen elsewhere.

Looking forward to visiting again.

Lovely hotel with really friendly and helpful staff. Lots to do on the estate and staff can provide bikes, canoes, picnic baskets, jackets, wellies and anything that you may need. The woods and gardens are beautiful and its just a few minutes from Skibbereen. Really relaxing and perfect if you want some peace and quiet.
