“True to her slogan - Gemäß ihrem Motto”

This review is in available in English and in German/Diese Bewertung ist auf Englisch und auf Deutsch verfügbar.

1. Englisch:
Well, I've stayed with Mona Best for years, whenever my steps led me to beautiful, charming and unique West Cork. And of course I came back for a reason - or let's rather say a couple of reasons.
Mona is a charming and very nice and kind landlady who will do her best (no pun intended) to make you feel at home. The rooms are cozy and the beds are soft so you'll be provided with a good night's sleep and and after breakfast, you'll be ready to explore both Skibereen and West Cork.
Breakfast? Did I write breakfast? Well, I did for the want of a more appropriate word. As anybody going to Ireland will possibly know, the Irish take great delight in their breakfasts and as a guest you can expext a good one. But Mona is beyond compare in what she does, believe me - or even better find out for yourself.
There is a beatifully decorated table waiting for you when you come down, juice, cereal, tea and coffee as well as a variation of breads and jams, it's all there or in the case of tea and coffee will be brought to you.
Don't worry, you won't need to take any of the cereals as you will probably not be able to find any room for it anyway, as now the fun starts. It's usually fruit, either as a mix between different fruits or with joghurt and/or cereal for starters (by the way, you won't get the same thing twice) and then it is Mona's version of the good old fry-up. My mouth waters just as I recall it. I wrote version but I should rather use the plural, as once again, the make-up differs each day. If anybody needs a second helping, there is plenty more stuff to be freshly made - I've never needed any it was more than enough what came on the plate. It is not just that from sausages to Black Pudding (for those who fancy it), eggs and toast and rashers you'll find all you could ask for, it's also neatly arranged and sometimes you feel like destroying a work of art when you start at the food.
See the photos for detail.
The rooms are each in a certain stye and of course differ not only slighly. Decorating is something Mona loves doing and she does it very well, so it will take all ofyour poor senses to take it all in at the first glance.

Mona promises on her facebook page that you'll "arrive as a guest and leave as a friend" - and she does her best to keep that promise, so it is up to you to make it work. And work it will, I'm sure.

Permit me some words on Skibbereen as a place. Skib, as the locals say is a medium-sized town with a few good pubs - with real live trad music on most evenings of the week. There are some good shops, too, that are worth a call and some browsing through.
The range of places to eat is quite good, too. From a very decent, but not really inexpensive restaurant just five doors down from Bridge House to pubs that do great food at moderate rates, everything is there. For the more budget-aware travellers, the chip van on the bridge does great food as well and for more than fair prices.
Fields, the local Supervalue's started off as a bakery and they still do good bread and cakes as well as other delights for those with a "sweet tooth", there is a small café upstairs and there's another one just next door to the post office.
Skib is a good point to explore West Cork from, as you can (and should) go to Baltimore, Lough Hyne, Mizen Head, Bantry and Sheep's Head as well as Clonakilty within half an hour to an hour. West Cork is highly addictive, you'll want to come back for more - believe me.

It was our secondtime at the Bridge House and if we are back in Ireland we will stay there min. one night. Mona Best is a very hospitable and friendly person who does everthing to make your stay unforgetable. The breakfast is definetly the best breakfast ever. The decoration is unique. The Bridge House is not without reason the winner of a the most unusaul B&B contest.

We spent 5 nights a this Outstanding home. Mona is a wonderful host whose knowledge of the area including what sights to visit, and where to dine with detailed directions was great. The home is lovely as described in other reviews and the food is fresh and delicious however; what makes a stay memorable is Mona. Stay here, you will not be disappointed..

We found this place by chance and will stay there again if ever we are near Skibbereen again. When you enter you go back to Victorian times as everything appears to date from then. It is very comfortable and we slept well and the breakfast is a work of art. Mona has worked hard to create this great place and it is an experience not to be missed. The pub across the road had live traditional music the night we were there, perfect.

Room Tip: they are all nice

Mona....what a wonderful lady, I want to be her when I grow up....her home is an Aladdin's Cave of treasures and junk shop finds. We had the red, the blue and the green rooms....all delightful and the spectacular bathroom was complete with log fire....
I did not want to get out of the wonderful, comfortable bed in the morning but just lie under the duvet, cushions and covers admiring what she had "done with the place"
Breakfast was scrummy, complete with little "oooos", "ohhhhs" and "ahhhs as we spotted more things to marvel at
Perfect location, no problem with parking (free on street), in a town with lots of lovely little shops, bars and restaurants. Baby Hannah's for a pint of the black stuff and live music is a must
OK so there is no central heating (as yet, but planned) but the warmth of the welcome makes up for that, the plumbing can be tricky to work out for non-natives but my goodness, you will never stay in a place so unique as this

Room Tip: Take your pick - the rooms are all wonderful!

Myself and my husband stayed here in September. It is the most memorable b&b we've ever been to. The decor is just fabulously quirky. Mona's hospitality is outstanding and the breakfast was truly amazing. There is such attention to detail in this b&b. A magical gem of a place- we'll definitely be back.
