“Only because You have to...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2011

This review deals with the pub, not the hotel itself. Went there on Saturday night after à walk down Rossbeigh beach. The place was packed, which we thought was à good thing, so we found à couple of seats at the bar. The beer and cider were fine, but the food was to be à major disappointment. The garlic bread consisted of 3 tiny bits of baguette, very little for 3€ or so. We had the so-called "homemade burger", which had nothing homemade about it, the bread, meat and chips that came with the burger were not homemade, no doubt about that. 12€ for one of the worst burgers ever tasted in Ireland, well, i felt ripped off to tell You the truth...
The worst we witnessed happened to the poor girls who ordered Irish coffees: sitting at the bar, we saw à waiter préparé Irish coffees with instant coffee, boiling water, whisky and thick cream which looked suspiciously yellowish. I wouldn't want to have drunk that..
So, nice place for à pint, sure, just do not have dinner there and stay away from the Irish coffee!

Dear Riddleguy,
After reading your recent review about certain items available in our bar I had to reply so that other users of trip advisor can get to judge your comments from both angles.
First and foremost our blackboard special "home-made beef burger" is exactly what it says, a home-made beef burger, not a home-made burger, home-made bun and home-made chips as you assumed.I can assure you if we had to bake the bread and hand cut the chips , the price would be a different one entirely! These burgers are made here in the Towers, we use minced beef from Ring of Kerry Meats, lightly fried chopped onion, O Sullivans bread crumbs from Killorglin and freshly chopped herbs bound with fresh eggs in our home-made burgers. We also use a burger machine to create the burger shape (which I assume is the reason you thought they were frozen). I felt obliged to clear this matter up for both future customers and people who have in the past enjoyed our home-made burgers.
Secondly our standard garlic bread portion is 3 pieces of baguette buttered with home-made garlic and fresh parsley butter, we never receive complaints that it is too small and so have never looked at adding more pieces, it probably is a bit on the small size for 2 people as one person will end up with just one piece, however it is an individual portion.
In relation to the Irish Coffees, we hold our hands up we do of course like most other licensed establishments in Ireland use instant coffee in our Irish Coffees and have been doing so for the past 30 years (the freshly ground coffee machines are relatively new to Ireland, certainly to Glenbeigh!).One of the reasons for continuing to use instant is that an Irish coffee requires slightly more than one shot of coffee for the cream to stay afloat.Indeed about the cream, as anyone who makes a good Irish Coffee can confirm, they are a tricky drink to perfect and if the cream is anything less than perfect the cream will (without a doubt) sink, and the Irish Coffee will be dumped. It's as simple as that.
I am so confident in our Irish Coffees that I would like to offer you 2 complimentary the next time that you are in the Glenbigh area (please just identify yourself to a member of our staff), if after sampling one you are still dissapointed please by all means feel free to put your views on as many websites as you like, but please at least try one of your own before you comment so publicly on some-one elses.
Just also one last point on the Irish Coffee I received a phone call from a lady just last week asking what whiskey we use, (Jamesons of course) as she had the best Irish Coffee she ever tasted at the Towers and wanted to know our secret ! I hope my feedback has been of help to you and indeed anyone thinking about eating or drinking in The Towers Bar in the future.

We didn't expect to be staying a night in Glenbeigh so we called this hotel at the last minute and booked in for the night. The room was better than we expected. Spacious and with a lovely step down area to a bay window overlooking the garden.
The Tv was pretty old with just 3 channels but no big deal. The bathroom was fine. A little dated but spotless. The taps were so stiff though!
Breakfast the next morning was a treat. Delicious.
Good place to stop when doing the Ring of Kerry.

Stayed the one night during August bank Holiday. Got the room at a steal. Lovely staff on check in. The place was really busy but staff attentive. The Hotel is creeky and old but charming. The room was very basic but very clean which is the important thing. Great atmosphere in the village due to the time of year and great entertainmetn in the bar all night. Great base for exploring if thats your thing. Would recommend and would stay again.

Went on AXA Leisure break special deal (half price) and found the hotel very good value for money. The food in the bar was excellent and the service was also very good. The breakfast had a good choice and again the staff were friendly.

Was surprised that the beach was a good 2kms away ; we had brought mountain bikes with us and cycled all along it........which had fantastic views and seemed to go on forever.

1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2010

We visited the Towers on the evening of 15th June 2010 to have a evening meal. We were a party of four adults. Myself and my friend sat at a table while my husband and friends wife went to order drinks at the bar. Within seconds we were approached by two waitresses who asked to take our order we advised them we were waiting for two more to join us. When the waitress toook our order I asked her what Bacon and Cabbage was on the menu as this was obviously and Irish dish and being English did not know what it was, the waitress which I later found out was called Breda replied it's bacon from a pig you know, as we all come from a farming community we were all aware of where bacon came from. A lamb shank was ordered which is normally served with minted gravy, it came served with a boloignase sauce and had never been anywhere near a mint leaf!!! After sitting for 3/4 of an hour with empty plates and wempty handed waitresses passing us all the time we decided enough was enough and went to pay only then did the waitress clear our table and not once did she ask if there was anything else she could get for us. If this waitress was a member of my staff she would have been sacked for her rudeness.
