“DIRTY, AWFUL AND PROBABLY DANGEROUS TOO.”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

We stayed at this caravan park during the last week of May 2012. I am able to state without any doubt whatsoever, that we would never choose to return. The caravan was dirty and was also home to a large number of live insects and dead flies etc. The windows and floors were filthy, and there were cobwebs everywhere. The cooker and more especially the grille, should have been condemned. ( The gas jet for the grille was held up with a piece of wire !! ) As the grille was too dangerous to use, it would have been had there been a toaster there. There wasn't. The gas fire in the "Lounge" was dirty and inefficient. When we arrived, the gas bottles were empty. The beds were most uncomfortable. We were charged £10.00 for the luxury of a T.V. which was totally impossible to watch. An absolute disgrace. The owners should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. I doubt it though. Rated as TERRIBLE.

Room Tip: Site next to a noisy road.

Stayed for four nights in July 2012. The caravan and site were basic but we expected that for the price we paid. The views of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks from the caravan were stunning, even seeing the top of Carrauntoohill. It was a good location just 1.5 miles from Killorglin town centre. Great for visiting Killarney, Tralee, Dingle, Dingle Peninsular and the ring of Kerry.

Ive stayed here every summer for the last 4 years! And previously, i was brought here 20 years ago by my parents!

The mobile park is clean, well maintained.. Gas heating was fine.. Water was fine.. All electrics working fine!
No complaints in that area at all!
Beds are comfy..
And a bonus is the onsite river for the fishing.. My son and hubby spent a lot of time fishing for trout and salmon..
Lovely place in the evening with the good sunshine!

The park is about a 10 minute drive from killorglin town..
About 30 min drive to killarrney..
Its a great base for touring the southwest region.
Liam (site manager) met us on our arrival with our key.. And dropped by a few times during the week. Also when we left he met us before we hit the road..

I would & will return in the future.
Thanks to Wests caravan park!
Karen.

on reading reviews of this site only a few days before due to travel i was worried, Very worried.
i told my wife who insisted we bring everything of our own, which is fine as we have a big car and only us two.
we brought our own cutlery, bedding, pans and laptop to watch dvds etc..

when we got there, the auld woman wanted 50 utlilty charge and 50 depoist, i managed to get 10 off coz we had our own bed linen, i went to pay her in euros and she was raging it wasnt in sterling (obv worth more to her) so she charged me more.
i found out later in the week from a couple from england she phoned them before they travelled and asked them for £80 utlity charge, plus a deposit when they arrived.

the caravan was old and they had a fly trap in the kitchen with hundreds of flys on it but hadnt been cleaned, other than that it was basic, since we had our own stuff we didnt worry, we didnt use a single item belonging to the caravan, all the cups etc were left on the table all week.

was great for visting cork, ring of kerry, killarney, dingle etc.. we had a fab holiday but just knew that it was going to be basic after reading the reviews on here.

Room Tip: Bring as much of your own stuff as you can.

Having booked to stay with four friends and reading the comments on Tripadvisor we were really worried. We arrived around 4pm and we were greeted by Gerry who was very friendly he took us to our caravan and it was clean and more than we had expected for what we had paid (Sun deal). Everything worked except the grill on the cooker. We had a lovely view. We were near the road and could hear the traffic but it did not bother us. The next day Gerry came round to see if everything was OK. The only thing we found was it was about a mile and a half out of Killorglin, If you wanted to go into town at night. We went into hear Irish music one night but we drove. There was plenty of free parking. We were too tired to walk anyway after being out all day. It was in an ideal location for the ring of Kerry. We could not fault it and really enjoyed our stay.

Having looked at the caravan's website before booking my Sun holiday, I thought we were going to enjoy it.

It was advertised as having tennis courts, games room, beach access, kids play area, etc. Well, it had none of them unless you count a Little Tykes plastic slide next to a grotty caravan a play area! The tennis court consisted of a broken net over a bit of waste ground.

I could've handled the lack of site facilities, but what I couldn't handle was the absolutely disgusting caravan. As others have mentioned, the keys were in the doors which isn't very reassuring. The first caravan we had was so filthy, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the 80s, so we complained are were told to pick another. They were all pretty gross, but it was getting late and we'd travelled a long way, so we settled on the one which looked most modern. What a mistake. The place was riddled with spiders and bugs, even the cutlery drawer was full of dead bugs. My kids couldn't sleep because they were scared. I couldn't sleep because the caravan was just awful.

We complained to the old guy once more and he told us we were hard to please! It's not much to ask for clean, well maintained accommodation is it? Oh, and we were charged £10 for a TV which didn't work too.

We packed up and were tempted to get the boat back to Wales, but it seemed a shame to go home without seeing beautiful Kerry, so we booked into a lovely B&B in Killarney (which ate up most of our spending money, but was worth it).

I would not recommend this place and don't know why it's still running. It should be demolished!

Room Tip: Don't even bother, it's a hell hole!

Went here Sept 2011 so we did'nt expect good weather, what we did expect was decent accomodation. We arrived at about 6.30pm after a long arduious journey to find a note pinned to a board telling us which was your caravan, no-one around....... The caravan without being too rude was filthy, cold, dated & not what we had paid for.
We had paid for an upgraded 3 bedroomed more "modern" model. Went back to the ramshakled "reception" area to find an old man milling about. told him our predicument, he told us to take an caravan with the keys on the outside, which to be honest was most of them, checked a good many of them ( all in the same state) some worse than others.
Decided to go out for a meal, certainly was not going to eat in this dump. Came back about 10.30pm the five of us in my party, one being my 14 year old niece, we could not settle , rain pounding on the windows that would not shut properly , big gaps letting in water & draught due to the howling wind.
Myself & my partner who both have quite complex health issues settled for one of the twin bedded rooms it was the worse night of my life..........
Could not sleep, got up at 4.30 to find the other three of my party laid on the seating areas all fully clothed with their coats over them. We had managed to light the fire , but that only half worked when put up to full power (dangerous).
We could NOT use the bedding provided, it was disgusting.
Them three said enough was enough and booked into a b & b at a cost of 150 euros that they had not accounted for.
Myself & my partner stuck it out with heavy hearts, like I said we have health problems me C.O.P.D. & my partner a heart condition. We could have been seriously affected by this horrible experience.
We found out from local people that the owners of this dump had lost interest in this place because a recent sale of the whole site had fallen through, but that do not give them the right to take money from people & not show any respect i.e. charging extra for all kinds of things that were less than aceptable.
We booked this via Sun Holidays, they will be hearing from me with nothing less than a demand for a full refund, this s... hole wants wipeing from their list.
