Owner description: The remains of the city's striking 12th-century cathedral.

Ardfert Cathedral is not only a beautiful structure, but the history that goes along with it is very special. Made more interesting by the Mr. Stack who was volunteering the day we were visiting. He showed up photographs of some of the tombs, as eerie as they were it was most informative and now we have a clearing understanding of how the family graves operate.

The site is clearly historical. The front building is very nicely laid out and gives you a warm feeling. Definitely worth a drive out of the way although its not far off the main road.

Please note there are no restrooms here.

This place totally worths for visit. In this ancient cathedral you can feel the celtic history. Other buildings in the area are also very impressive. I think that this sight is a little bit underrated in comparision with another Irish ones.

The staff attached to the visitor centre were very helpful. Before entering the Cathedral they explain the history and significant things to see on a scaled down model - and then free you to explore on your own.

When we visited - only the main Cathedral and one small chapel was accessible - although there was restoration going on in the other smaller chapels - so maybe in the future more of this site will be available.

There are some excellent gargoyles and the West door is truly magnificent.

The small indoors museum has some of the more beautifully carved pieces within.

Other close by places include the Rattoo Round Tower and also the Friary a short distance away.
