“GOOD VALUE”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

Went with very little expectations as like many other reviewers had availed of the 99 euro dealrush offer. First impression - hotel is very old fashioned and definetly would benefit from an overhaul. However, it was very clean, our room was massive and the food was delicious. The staff were brilliant, particularly Brid in the Restaurant who was always smiling and cheery no matter how busy it got - taking time to advise us on trips to take, beach drives etc. We stayed in Room 229, whilst the room was lovely and big, clean etc it did front on to the main road - alot of noise from traffic but again, this is not the Hotels fault. We initially had booked a suite but on arrival changed to a standard room. Reason being, all that was offered extra in the suite was a two seater couch and chair in a separate room, no tv, tea making facilities etc - so we felt what was the point of it when all of the aforementioned were in the bedroom - that is our only quibble - oh yes and the gentleman who snored all night long in room 228! For the money - well worth a visit - proximity to Ennis and Limerick excellent.

Room Tip: Suites not worth the extra money unless you have a family with you.

Positives - Flat screen tvs, aviation memorabilia in lobby and ease of access from motorway

Negatives - Slightly quaint, bit expensive @ 66 euro a night, uncomfortable beds.

Overall not bad and an attractive offering to foreigners as it is a very irish hotel but for the business traveller its too quaint and lacks simplistic uncluttered comfort offered by more modern hotels

I like to be fair when I review so here goes. Our weekend away was as a result of a discounted deal on a popular deal website. After purchasing the deal several weeks ago we decided to book our weekend away and contacted the hotel. All was fine, however on mentioning 2 small children who were accompanying us , we were surprised to learn of a substantial supplement for them. I challenged this and after speaking to management, the issue was amicably resolved. I feel this however should never have been an issue as there was no mention of it on the booking voucher. On arrival all was excellent. Reception staff very welcoming and hotel very nice, however some carpet in places starting to look a big jaded. Our room was huge, a family room but there was was no lift and with a buggy this was not ideal at all. The room also was divided into 2, and although it was very large there was no windows in the bedroom part and some of the paintwork needed touching up. The tv could have been in the bedroom area but that's more a personal thing. We ate the first night in the lovely bar and it was really excellent! I had a chicken wrap with lovely salad, and all others enjoyed theirs thoroughly. The best thing was the value of the kiddies meal. Well done oakwood. As I said lovely bar with excellent, attentive staff...a credit to the hotel! Slept ok and breakfast was very nice the next morning. Again staff were excellent, could not have done more. We had a meal in the restaurant that night but unfortunately were a bit disappointed. The first thing was the main course arrived out literally 5 minutes after we finished the starters (which was fine) but we didn't enjoy our mains. I had steak which was only ok but the accompanying veg was overcooked and not very appealing. My wife's stir fry was a bit tasteless also. Staff could not be faulted however, and we did make our feelings known. We jonestly felt the bar food was better and we did say that- also suggested to waiter to give more time between courses. We sojourned back to the bar after and a lovely traditional session started. Great to see a packed, lively bar....it really does give a great reflection on the hotel. Overall I have to say, for what the weekend cost us we can't complain to much...but things can improve a wee bit.

Just back from a two night stay booked with deal rush for €99. This is beautiful hotel, yes it may be a tad old fashioned but thats what gives it its charm. Very clean and comfortable rooms with powerful shower. All the staff we dealt with were very friendly and added to the lovely athmosphere. First night we found the bar a bit too quiet for our liking and were told there was no entertainment so we went to the local bar down the road, Shannon Knights and had a great night. We also dined in the Bistro attached called Zest and have to say it was superb. If your in this neck of the woods please try it. Had our meal in restaurant on Saturday night and had no complaints. Again our waitress for the night was lovely and helpful. Services very quick. Were pleasantly surprised to find musicians playing in the bar that night and decided to stay put and thoroughly enjoyed it. Should have entertainment in Bar as standard. Our only gripe. Would definately stay here again.

Currently staying here using a dealrush voucher ( 2nights b&b & dinner-€99) very happy with everything - hotel is clean & comfortable , staff are excellent :) had dinner in pier 17 restaurant last ... Amazing food & service - made the 3hour car drive completely worth while! Sone may say the decor is slightly dated but the cleanliness , staff & atmosphere more than make up for this. The hotel is overflowing with charm & character ! Fantastic

Dear 20straveller.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. It is a great pleasure to read such kind words about the hotel and the various departments and the staff you encountered.
The Oakwood Arms Hotel had its origins as a family owned run business and I think we just naturally feel like one big, happy family!. It really is the small things that make a difference.

Looking forward to welcoming you back

Kind Regards
