We were on a bus tour and just enjoyed the scenery while our driver, Domenic, did all the work. We also took a short cruise along Killary Fjord. Ireland is so green and beautiful, it's hard not to keep saying how lovely it all is. There is something just magical about this place that makes me want to come back before I've even left.

Magnificent panoramic views with breathtaking views. Worth the effort to go and see. Certainly make sure you make it part of your trip to Clifden.

While there are many driving loops similar to the Sky road (e.g. Slea Head Drive, Sheeps Head, Kinsale Head Loop - to name a few), the Sky Road is undoubtedly one of the must dos when you are in either Connemara or Clifden areas of stunning County Galway.

We began and finished our cycle loop in Clifden, and it took about 2 hours leisurely (with stops for photos along the way). My tip is that you cycle out the lower road and follow the loop that way as this is a less hilly start to your trip.

There are lots of places to stop and pull in along the way. This may be the gate of a farmer or houseowne, but once you don't leave the car there, they will not mind.

We used Mannions Bike Hire who are based in Clifden, but they will deliver bikes to your accommodation at no extra cost if you are staying near the town. Cost for us was 12 euro per person for the day, expensive, yes, but it included cost of the bike/helmet delivery and collection.

You can of course drive the Sky Road Loop and this can take as long as you like, though typically I would expect that it would take no more than an hour.

Really needs more places to pull-in to let traffic /cyclists & walkers pass - view spectacular even on a wet and windy day.

One of those places you want to shout about but on the other hand you don't want to be spoiled by lots of people who just wouldn't appreciate the absolutely stunning scenery and tranquillity this area offers.
