This was a decent hotel in a perfect location right in middle of Clifden. Hotel was decent but very dated. Great location within walking distance from anything in the town. Staff very friendly. Breakfast was fine with selection of traditional Isish breakfast or continental..

The Alcock & Brown Hotel ranks top among the places to stay when visiting beautiful Connemara. After our warm greeting at reception we enjoyed afternoon tea in the quaint and warm lobby. Our room was ready, spotlessly clean, comfortably appointed, and charmingly restored--so refreshing after the sameness of big city hotels. This historic hotel is located smack in the middle of Clifden and the new proprietors, Sharon Maher and Mick Byrne, have spent a year restoring it to it's original upper level origins. They and their staff give superb customer service found only in the very best hotels. My luggage was delayed by the airlines and Sharon, herself, made phone calls and spoke to Aer Lingus on my behalf taking over an hour to locate and make arrangements to have it delivered. She wanted to represent all of Ireland in making our stay the very best. Well done, Sharon!
Also, the Alcock & Brown presents the smooth, lyrical sound of The Michael Carey Band on Saturday nights. We listened all evening captivated by this Irish singer who does a combination of traditional Irish music and rock while sipping some of the finest Irish whiskey distlilled right in Connemara. (Recommended by Mick Byrne!) If you can get to Clifden this summer, stay on a weekend. Enjoy the scenery of Connemara, the warmth of the wonderful Alcock & Brown Hotel, and the music of Mike Carey. We will be back again!

arrived for a weekend in Clfden and during our stay (at another location) we wandered into this hotel to see how the music was in the bar. At the desk we were asked if we were there to eat in the dining room. We said we already eaten and in our conversation we were saying how hard it was to find meal (as we were both vegetarians). As we were leaving a gentleman approached us and said he had overheard our conversation. He was the owner of the hotel and told us to come back the next morning and tell the front desk what we would like for dinner and they would prepare it for us.... We retuned the next morning and the front desk were already aware of us and took our order. Our dinner that evening was delicious and the presentation was wonderful...they even asked if we wanted seconds. We then asked for Banoffee pie for dessert but they didnt have any ....AGAIN they said come back tomorrow and we will have some made for you. So next day for our afternoon tea we arrived to find this pie made for us...presentation again was beautiful and we even took pictures of it. Their service was amazing and we werent even staying there ..but is sure made us wish we had. All the staff we encountered were outstanding and if we are ever in Clifden there is no question we will stay there. Another wonderful experience that highlighted our trip to magical Ireland. Thank you so much for making us feel welcome in your hotel. Outstanding!!!!!

We returned to the Alcock and Brown having stayed there last year, once again we had a most enjoyable weekend. The room was very clean and the staff were excellent, friendly and very attentive especially to the children. We had our evening meal there, the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately the weather wasn't good so we sat in the lobby on Saturday evening where there was a guy playing traditional music, there was also a band in Vickers bar later on. Overall there was a great buzz about the place. Hopefully we will return again in the future.

basic but clean.found it hard to find a hotel in cliften center that didn't have an odd smell (either damp or just not nice) and the b+b's left a lot to be desired. How they get bord failte approved is beyond me.
