“A campsite with a difference”

This is a great campsite with friendly owners & fellow campers all enjoying the pure nature that surrounds it.We were able to have our own private pitch which was free of mud & always dry, rare to find in other campsites which we visited when it rained. My husband & childern loved the fishing experience from the campsite with lots of fish caught each day, we even had to give some away. The site is unspoiled with lovely views & great beaches within meters of your campervan, facilities always clean as was the site.
There was a great feeling of being with nature, no noise only the sound of the sea.
We realy enjoyed our time here & wished that we could have stayed longer, will revisit in 2012 to see more of beautiful Connemara.

Only 10 mins awaya from Clifden, the dunes of Claddaghduff provide the perfect spot for a camping vacation. We arrived in the afternoon and were warmly greeted by the owner Kris, who found us a place for our tent and gave us a quick tour around the site. We couldn't have asked for more: The dense machair grass provided the perfect mattress for our sleeping bags and the deep duneslacks let us feel alone in the dunes. The views over a tidal stream and beyond a bay to Omey Island were stunning and the white beaches along the bay gave us a caribbean feeling that made it really hard to leave.

If you are camping, caravanning, or motorcaravanning and do not want the most beautiful and tranquil site in which to stay then do not stop off at Acton's Beachside C & C Park at Claddaghduff just 4-5 miles outside of Clifden (just type Acton beach camping galway into google).

But if you do want the most beatiful scennary, golden sands (own beach), peace and tranquility with the possibilities of seeing dolphins jumping in the bay then if you miss Acton's you are a fool to yourself, we booked for one night in early September and stayed a week and it would have been longer if we had the time. Run by a young local chap called Chris (Acton) it is based on an Eco system for energy and waste disposal, Chris refuses to cram people in like sardines therefore your pitch in the dunes makes you feel like you are not even on a site, although there is full toilet and washing facilities kept in spotless condition.
If you are really lucky Chris and his young son might even knock on your tent or caravan door with some freshly caught fish for tea, and yes if you had not guessed we are going back next year!

I was begining to get a little fed up with the typical campsite of rows of caravans and tents all squashed far too close together and began to look for something closer to wild camping, and this is when i came across this place. This campsite reflects all that i think of as being connemara - open spaces, rocky coast, big skies, empty sandy beaches, crystal clear sea and friendly like minded people. The owner, Kris, walked with us around various options to pitch finding out what sort of place we would ideally like and we found ourselves nestled in between 2 low hills with the door of the tent looking out over the estuary. t couldnt have been more perfect for us. Kris is a lovely person, friendly and welcoming and seemed to always make time for everyone staying there. The toilets and shower were always very very clean as was the whole site. Fishing was new to us but we had a go following Kris's advice and we had great fun doing this - although we must have been the only people trying fishing that didnt catch anything!! Most others were pulling in plenty of mackeral for a feast!
We had a wonderful walk on Omey Island from the campsite and had a great meal out at Mitchells in Clifden (Pricy but we thought it was worth it).
There is plenty of good kayaking directly from the campsite and we hope to go back with our kayaks very soon.
We had booked a cottage for our second week in Ireland and if we had not already paid for it we would have been very tempted to just stay and enjoy more camping.

Having recently returned from a lovely holiday at Acton's Beachside Campsite we just wanted to add to the other positive reviews already posted. After a hectic 6+ hour drive with 3 children and a packed car we were warmly greeted by the campsite owner Kris who gave us several options of a pitch and within minutes of pitching our tent we immediately felt completely relaxed! The surroundings are stunning with our pitch having uninterrupted views over water and the twelves Ben's in the distance. We didn't think things could get much better until we discovered the sites immaculate private beach which boasts amazing white sand and crystal clear water. We soon found out talking to other like minded campers most had returned time and time again and enjoyed the 'wild camping experience' but with some home comforts. The toilet block/shower was always very clean and Kris told us he has plans to add more facilities soon. Also as a first timer fisherman I wanted to thank him for his patience and advice sorting out my rod - I was soon catching dinner just minutes from the tent much to the delight of the kids who are already badgering us to return soon!

Wow, we have just returned from the most amazing camping holiday not far from Clifden, Connemara, and I feel I must share this with other people considering camping in West Ireland.
My family (including husband, children, sister, brother in law and dog!) travelled to Acton's beachside Caravan and Camping Eco Park after finding it on Google. We were warmly welcomed by the owner Kris on arrival and quickly set up our cosy camp spot, a fabulous position on the top of a grassy mound looking out over the Atlantic sea and estuary. The campsite is uncrowded, peaceful and excellently maintained. The surroundings are natural and unspoilt. The beach is a two minute walk through the dunes and with its white sand and crystal clear water that shelves gently out it was perfect for us all (particularly the kids). There are lovely walks across to Omey Island, where my husband spent his time kitesurfing.
We fished every day (a short walk from our campervan), and had fresh fish for supper most nights, (my five year old caught her first mackerel!!!).
On the days when we needed to get supplies we headed into Clifden where there was plenty going on. Great shops and bars with music in the evenings where the kids were welcome too.
We all had such a relaxing holiday and such a fantastic time that we were sad to leave. Acton's beachside Caravan and Camping Eco Park is how camping should be.
