“Over-rated and over-hyped!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

I stayed here back in September but was very disappointed. It seemed to me to be an overpriced park being run 'on the cheap' (i.e. with very little investment by the current owners) and incorrectly marketed as an 'eco' park to justify this fact.

The signage for the park and reception caravan was very poor, as was the condition of the main entrance track to the park. As some other reviewers have already commented, the facilities were basic with some odour and privacy issues. What was most surprising though was the lack of any signs in relation to driving or walking on what the owners refer to as a "highly specialized & complex sand dune habitat". Furthermore, there also appeared to a large dominating house in the process of being built next to the site, perhaps for the owners themselves in the future, which seemed out of place and contradictory to the whole nature of an eco-park.

All in all, the park seemed to me to be fundamentally mis-sold by the owners, with the 'eco' theme adopted to justify a high price for what is otherwise quite a primitive park. This was a big shame as the location itself was indeed very scenic, which is the only reason I have not given it a poorer overall rating.

We have been so lucky to stay here twice this year. Kris and Tatjana always have a warm welcome ready, along with their two children and Flan (the dog). June was incredible weather wise, very hot and sunny day after day. Lovely to see so many people enjoying the fabulous beach here and the cattle too. The sunsets in the evening are spectacular, who needs to go abroad for the stunning sights we saw. Again we arrived in September for nearly 3 weeks. The weather was great for 3 days and then came a mighty storm. Oh boy can the wind blow!! The awning was fine as we had put all the storm straps on the night before. The storm blew over and all was peace and calm again. Kris and Tatjana have added a kitchen and extra loos and shower. The kitchen is great, well equipped, plenty of seating and tons of info. Good place to meet new people and chat. Their children kept us amused and presented us with a jar of home made jam (from Granny) it was delicious, jam will always be known to us now as Granny's Jam !! Have booked again for next year and just can't wait. Every day brings something different, from seeing the beauty of the mountains to not being able to see them at all. Seals swimming around basking in the super clear water, Flan coming to stay in the awning looking for Bonio's, our two dogs love her. Joey the cat visited us a couple of evenings until the dog food was moved to a secure location in the caravan. We come home as different people, chilled out and totally relaxed with wonderful memories and tons of photo's. For magic in the air this is the place to be. If you want noise, being right next door to another camper, organised entertainment etc. then look elsewhere. Good on you Kris and Tatjana, you have a wonderful spot just keep on doing what you do, as you do it so well. See you in June.

We stayed here in July and the 'average' comments are very accurate - it is a very open site as it is on the Attlantic seaboard - make sure you pitch your tent in a sheltered place, The toilets should not share the same space as the kitchen - the odour was terrible

Back again to this small piece of paradise. It really doesn't matter what the weather is here. Absolute relaxation and tranquility is guaranteed, even when the site is at full capacity. The campsite just seems to get better with every visit. The hospitality and assistance from the site owners is second to none. "Thanks again for fixing the puncture". We hope to get back to our piece of paradise before the season closes.

Back again for another long weekend!
We were only here a month ago, couldn't wait to get back!
A four night stay in our caravan overlooking the beach...as relaxing as you want it to be. All ages love the beach for sandcastle building (the sand is so clean and good), swimming (yes people in the sea on 1st October) or just a gentle stroll at any time of day.
It rained pretty heavily on day 3, (well it is the west of Ireland!), but NO MUD anywhere!! The sandy grass just allows the water to drain away!
The end of September is a great time to be here as it coincides with the Clifden Arts Festival. A parade on the Saturday night that any big city would have been proud of.
Great stuff, including drummers, music, fabulous costumes, larger than life mobiles, stilt walkers, aerial ballet and a fantastic fireworks display! Well done Clifden!

I can absolutely recommend :-
The owners, Kris and Tatanja and their family - friendly, helpful and welcoming!
The showers, FREE and hot!
The toilets - clean! (Also the Eco toilet fluid for Portapotti, sold on site, very cheap and excellent!)
The beach, clean!
The fishing, I didn't catch much - Yeah, it was a normal day!
The views - 5*.
The sunsets - Fabulous!
The rolling sand dunes and lack of marked pitches in straight rows.
Even at the end of the season we had a great time at this relaxing camp site.
Yes, we will be back again next year, this is our new "get away from it all" venue!!

We stayed here mid September for a weekend. Lovely spot, right beside the sea. We arrived and found it hard to find reception; basically when you get to the 2 cones take a left on foot and you will see a mobile home which is where the reception is.
Lovely family running it and option to hire a campfire for the night which was lovely and you get your money's worth in wood.
The facilities are in one big shed divided into 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. Each bathroom has 2 toilets and a shower. We felt that the further away bathroom was cleaner. Lyric fm is piped into shed 24hrs and when in kitchen can block out noises from kitchen but not smells..... Walls separate however common ceiling.
Clifden is a good 10-15 mins drive and the nxt village is the same. We went for a lovely walk around the Island of Omey on the Sarurday and the pub at the point you cross to the island was recommended for food and entertainment; Sweeney's. This would be a 10 min walk on a dangerous road as its not wide. After fresh air we looked forward to a nice meal only to find food was over... At 6pm on a Saturday evening!!!!
The views are amazing, they will charge iPads, phones etc if needed. Micro wave and free tea and coffee and milk provided 24 hrs.
We were there at end of season and yet still a lovely spot with own private beach.
Will return nxt summer!!
