This was our fifth time at Actons... We simply love the magnificent location. Breathtaking scenery, golden beaches with crystal clear waters with superb fishing..... all on site. Low density Eco camping at its very best, with simple but spotlessly clean facilities. The Owners Kris and Tatjana simply couldn't be more helpful. This campsite has everything for everyone who enjoys real camping, from families to the solo traveller.
I have camped all over Europe over the past 30 years and this is without doubt my favoute campsite and now a family favourite.

Had a fantastic two night stay here last week. We were lucky with the weather but the spot we were taken to, dubbed the 'honeymoon suite' was outstanding. Owners both extremely helpful and friendly. Amazing kitchen filled with info on local area and lovely hot shower too. Loved the emphasis on being eco friendly. This place is wonderful, highly recommend it!

We were really impressed with this campsite (we camped in a small tent). The owner Chris was extremely helpful and welcoming, the shower was very clean, and the free wifi and complimentary tea were a lovely touch! The site has an ideal location near the sandy beach and nearby Omey Island was a very pleasant walk. The free naturally sourced water and use of environmentally friendly products (e.g. dish soap) are also a positive reflection of the care Chris takes for the environment and this campsite area.

On arrival after a long 4 hour journey, through driving wind and rain, we were greeted by Chris and his wife Tatjana with the warmest of welcomes. With over a decade of camping in Ireland behind us, my family and I were in awe of the scenery that was all around us. Looking west, we could see Omey Island a short distance away and accessible when the tide was out, either by walking through the campsite's own private and most beautiful secluded white sandy beach or by car. Looking east and following the stream, where one could fish for mackerel, the twelve bens mountain range looked majestic silhouetted against the skyline.

Chris kindly showed us around, pointing out his on-site facilities which included the campers kitchen (with free tea and coffee - now there's a first), spotless toilets and free hot showers - where would you get it!

On setting up our tents, I noticed that despite the recent wet weather, the ground was absolutely perfect with not a muddy puddle in sight. Almost immediately, the camping adventure began with the kids roaming free to explore amongst the rocks and the white sandy beach.

After a full day of exploring, fishing and paddling, it was getting late in the evening as the sun quickly disappeared below the horizon. We all settled down and sat around the eco fire pit (available free of charge to all campers) sipping whiskey and telling tales, whilst the kids enjoyed toasting marshmallows.

A beautiful place to unwind and to enjoy the simpler things in life. A true jewel in Connemara indeed... Thanks Chris, Tatjana and kids for sharing such a beautiful place. We will certainly be back and for a longer duration too.

Lastly, for those who appreciate good food and a good pint of the black stuff, I recommend visiting Olivers seafood bar in Cleggan, a short 10minute drive away.

As others have mentioned, this site is a real gem. Chris and his family were so welcoming and the location is truly magniifcent. We were blessed with some April sunshine and the white sand and turquoise sea looked stunning. We fished in the stream (unsuccessful but had fun) and walked to omey island. This was a great walk to do with the kids as it involves walking along the beach and scrambling over the rocks. But for us the best thing was the freedom our children (age 12 10 and 8) could have playing in the dunes and going on adventures with the friends they made. Finishing the day toasting marshmallows around the campfire watching the sunset on the beach was just perfect.

Just back from a weekend camping with my wife and 3 young children. While the weather let us down, the campsite was everything I was looking for. Chris and Tatjana, were so welcoming and friendly, the location is amazing, with an incredible beach. The facilities were spotless and the pitches were so natural.

As I said, it did rain, but there was no sign of mud or dirt anywhere. The ground is perfect for camping. I loved being able to ave a fire and the eco fire pots were great.

Chris & Tatjana, well done on creating such a peaceful place to enjoy with family

We arrived at Actons having toured the west coast of Ireland and were immediately welcomed by Kris the owner who we found to be a fine host. The site is in an amazing location on a headland jutting out into the sea with some fine fishing spots and beautiful white sandy beaches.
Don't expect marked out pitches this site is the real thing nestled among the dunes a true gem no tokens required for the shower which was actually warm and powerful and a clean and well maintained toilet block. The site has plenty of electric hook ups which worked great.
My jack russell thoroughly enjoyed the site coming on a 3 hour walk at low tide to Omey island and we enjoyed some of the best weather we had had and it was only Easter Kris the owner recycles the camp rubbish and I am now running an Eco friendly toilet not blue GREEN cheers Kris.
All in all an amazing place we will return most definitely and this time Mackerel you had better watch out lol, just make sure you book ahead in the summer months I can imagine it gets busy

Room Tip: Phone ahead in the busy periods
