“Nice little rest stop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012 via mobile

I was walking the south Leinster way recently with some friends. We stayed overnight and the bedrooms were very comfortable. Breakfast was very nice and the staff were very pleasant. The bar is a real old gem and was full of locals chatting the evening away. Including the charming gentleman that told me he was a click past eithty. He would have gotten away with a click past 70 easily. The walking was beautiful from Inisteoige to Graiguenamanna. However as is with most way marked ways in Ireland the signage left a lot to be desired. I just cannot understand for the life of me why we cannot get something so simple right. Trails.ie could also do an awful lot better. Maybe the locals should take this by the scruff of the neck and turn this beautiful oasis into a real walking destination. A truly beautiful destination for the gathering.

We stayed in the Woodstock Arms in Inistioge recently, beautifully set in heavily-wooded lands in South Kilkenny - a hidden gem of Ireland and delightful for walking, though the way-marking on the South Leinster Way could be improved. The Arms is a pub, plus bed-and-breakfast, with hospitable hosts, spotlessly-clean rooms and friendly service. Highly recommended, though ask for a room at the back if you are a light sleeper - not that the pub is noisy, because it isn't. One point, though: the owners, along with the rest of Inistioge could make so much more of walking holidays, given that they are just 90 minutes from Dublin.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter

Just back from 4 nights at the Woodstock Arms - and loved it! Really good pub, helpful and friendly hosts (thanks Annette and Richard), top breakfasts and in a lovely part of Ireland. Evening food can be a challenge (only 1 restaurant open - but a good one!) but great alternatives in easy distance - especially the Sol in Thomastown - and always the pub to get back to.

We really enjoyed our stay - we were made very welcome, and the room was large and comfortable. Annette went to the trouble of sourcing gluten-free bread and sausages for breakfast, which was much appreciated as this can be difficult outside large towns. There's a lot to do in the area, and we're aiming to go back to the Woodstock Arms, as it was a very relaxing break.

This is a wonderful place to stay in the heart of an idyllic village. We were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The bar is full of charm very authentic. The rooms are large and spotless, very comfortable and with your own front door key you can come and go as you please. Annette and Richard are a great team working between the bar and B & B. The breakfast was as good as it gets. This place is a gem if you are in this part of Kilkenny then you should stay here. It is great value a home from home! We will definitely go back.

Room Tip: Phone ahead in busy times bank holidays or peak season and ask for a room overlooking the square.

We stayed here for one night in May 2011. I was a little apprehensive at first as I had never stayed in a B&B or guesthouse, however, this place exceeded my expectations and more. The rooms adjoin the pub and look out over the centre of the village. It's very quiet and roomy and everything was spotlessly clean. The couple who run the pub and guesthouse were lovely and really helpful in telling us about the local ammenities. They also cooked a delicioius breakfast! We walked up to Woodstock Gardens and Arboretum which is just stunning (I'd recommend you bring your walking boots to Inistioge) and we spent some time at the local waterfall which is again, very beautiful. We enjoyed pints in a few of the local pubs and had a fantastic meal in The Motte restaurant down the road. Beware, they only open for one or two nights a week all year round so be sure to book ahead and make sure they're open. Overall, our experience in the Woodstock Arms was great and we'd highly recommend it to others.
