Attraction details
Owner description: Snuggled in a wooded setting among the rich quiet farmlands of the Golden Vale by the River Maigue, Adare is a model village dating from the time of the Norman conquest. It has been home to the Earls of Dunraven (Quin Family) for over three centuries and is located on the Limerick to Tralee road, the N21, a great pit stop for those on the way to the Ring of Kerry. The Adare Heritage Centre, located in the middle of this charming town with its many thatched houses, allows you to step back in time through an informative historical exhibition, also incorporating a tourist office, gift, craft and heraldry outlets, and a restaurant. During Summer months - June-September - The Desmond Castle tour exclusively runs from the Heritage Centre 7 days a week, with a new tour every hour.

“Nice centre in a charming town”

Adare is a charming town and if you are there by all means visit the heritage centre but don't go out of your way to visit it as a stand alone attraction. It's nice but nothing to write home about.

“Lovely Friendly Restaurant with beautiful food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2014

Visited Adare recently and popped in to the lovely Dovecote restaurant in the Heritage Centre. The staff were friendly and professional. The atmosphere was welcoming and homely. The home made pies and cakes were to die for. We enjoyed their delicious soup and toasted sandwich which was yummy. If you are passing through Adare make sure you take time to visit this lovely restaurant. Looking forward to our next visit.

“Easy access”

Lovely shops - great location- lots of variety from woolens to bags and post cards. Plenty of parking in the rear and the heritage centre program is excellent.
