Owner description: Snuggled in a wooded setting among the rich quiet farmlands of the Golden Vale by the River Maigue, Adare is a model village dating from the time of the Norman conquest. It has been home to the Earls of Dunraven (Quin Family) for over three centuries and is located on the Limerick to Tralee road, the N21, a great pit stop for those on the way to the Ring of Kerry. The Adare Heritage Centre, located in the middle of this charming town with its many thatched houses, allows you to step back in time through an informative historical exhibition, also incorporating a tourist office, gift, craft and heraldry outlets, and a restaurant. During Summer months - June-September - The Desmond Castle tour exclusively runs from the Heritage Centre 7 days a week, with a new tour every hour.

The self-guided historical tour is worth the time and money in that it provides an excellent background of the Adare area's history and ancestry, including that of Adare Manor.

My mom and I bought a lot of items in the centre in the shops there. We liked their selection and prices. We also got maps of the area to help us with our sightseeing.

We stayed at the Adare Manor but we had to go into town to do some shopping so we ate at the little cafe and it was surprisingly good food! we then did the majority of our shopping at one of the little shops there called black abbey i believe. This place had soo many trinkets for people back home at great prices! i recommend anyone there who needs to get something for themselves or anyone else!

The Heritage Center in Adare is a great little place to do a bit of shopping and geneology searching. The shops have some really lovely items that are priced well and some things you won't see in other stores. Curran's Heraldry is staffed by very knowledgeable people who are always so happy to speak with you about your heritage and help you find your family's crest and some history. Love stopping here because they are always adding to their database.
