“Expensive for what it was.....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2014

We decided to break our journey back to Dublin from Kerry by staying overnight in Adare. The town itself was a bit too touristy for us. We booked two rooms in the Dunraven Arms Hotel - Euro 180 per room B&B (2 people in one room and 1 person in the other) very expensive in my opinion. It was a pleasant enough hotel but I would not be rushing back. Our rooms were upstairs (lots of them) and down a number of corridors - there was no lift. The bathroom in one of the rooms could really have done with a makeover....old world is one thing but this can be done in an attractive way and in this case it was not. Breakfast the following morning was good but the dining room was very busy and we felt a bit rushed. Got a bit of a shock when we requested the bill however, as we were being charged for someone else's dinner and wine.....this was resolved.

We reserved Dunraven but upon seeing the accommodations I was pleasantly surprised how elegant it was. Also the breakfast, the location (within walking distance) and the leisure center were extra bonus! I would return.

It was only one night but we really enjoyed our stay in spite of the weather. We didn't have a chance to experience dining but breakfast was fantastic! Very good choice. Room No 53 is spacious and has a garden view.

Room Tip: Room 53 is specious with a garden view. Would recommend!

We stayed here for three days to be close to Adare manor for a wedding we attended. The staff greeted us warmly and everyone was always polite and helpful. Since there in no A/C in this country due to cool weather, we were not prepared for their "heat wave" during our stay. The staff found a fan for us to use when asked. The hallways were fragrant with fresh flowers.
Room was clean and comfortable with modern amenities. Breakfast was buffet style and very tasty.

Room Tip: There is a pool/ spa area but we did not use these. Walking distance to just about everything since...

My wife and I recently stayed for 3 nights at the Dunraven Arms, positives first, staff and food were good..poor staff worked hard trying to please everybody...we stayed in a suite, lots wrong with the room, very tired, ..not worth the money we spent, we told the Management who unfortunately gave the impression, take it or leave it.....
My main irritation was that during the 3 days, we saw a preccesion of Wedding parties on every day, I appreciate that Hotels need to have these Weddings for survival. however not at the expense of paying guests...If thats the case then seperate them, or dont book in paying guests...unfortunately they took over the Hotel Bar, Breakfast room etc., we were the intruders seemingly...

Anyway not staying there ever again, but they probably dont even care...as long as the Wedding parties continue...

Out of all the lodging we experienced during our 2 weeks in Ireland, Dunraven Arms was the most inhospitable. From the moment we walked in the door, there was no one to be seen near the front desk. After waiting several minutes, a girl came out and without smiling once checked us in. She handed us our room key and never explained anything about breakfast the next morning, room service, check out times, etc. It felt as though she couldn't be bothered with us. The furnishings in the room itself did not seem to "exude old world charm" as many seem to express. They just felt like grubby old items. When we came back to the front desk to inquire about breakfast there was no one around again. The bad service continued throughout our stay with the exception of a lovely older gentleman working in the breakfast room who offered to take our photo. My husband and I both felt that Dunraven Arms was a stuffy, snobby hotel that did not share the warm, welcoming aspect that draws so many to Ireland. I would have much rather saved 50Euro and stayed somewhere more comfortable and cozy.
