We have just returned from The Oarsman pub/restaurant and would highly recommend, great food and service and my husbands special of lamb was to die for, I had the hake which was excellent.. Kids menu (5-8 euro) was really good, proper chicken goujons & organic pasta...its at the start of the town beside the roundabout if you're coming from Boyle/Sligo and there was plenty of on street parking this evening. Lovely old bar... the outside doesn't do it any justice...I look forward to a return visit(but its v busy so maybe consider booking....)

Oarsman is a great spot. Came recommended by word of mouth. Went with a large group which the staff managed excellently. We felt well attended to, timing was spot on and attention to our water and other drinks needs was also. Second visit was very good. I was eating alone and on a time schedule. Staff were great again, plenty of smiles which help, by its inference that they enjoy their working environment. Fish had a very butter rich sauce which was a shame as fish was amazing. Other components of the meal were good.

It's great to see that this bar & restaurant is still as popular as ever. We visited on a Wednesday night in early July and all the tables were full downstairs so we were shown to a table upstairs in the restaurant where they were serving the bar menu. Normally the restaurant is open Thursday to Saturday I think but they use this space if the bar gets busy during the week. We were the only table upstairs and I thought we would be missing the atmosphere of downstairs at first but after half an hour we were joined by another 4 tables and when we were leaving it was practically full.
The menu had good choices on it, I counted I think 4 of the 8 starters were seafood related, and main courses had lamb, pork, chicken, steak, veggie special, 2 fish and a salad. All our dishes were served 'as is' with no sides but good portions, not too much, not too little, well executed, good presentation and very tasty. Fish of the day (hake), Lamb shoulder & the pork were really good and the salmon & prawn starter was excellent. They have expanded their craft beer range and our skipper ordered Carrig Rowers red ale for us all which the waiter told us is locally brewed and I would heartily recommend it. Good friendly efficient service as always and a few speciality whiskeys later & it was time for a trad session in Cryan's bar a few doors down. Looking forward to our next return on the downriver route!

The Oarsman was recommended to us by the guest house that we were staying in. There is plenty of room on the roads nearby for parking. We had not booked a table beforehand and even though they were busy we got a table very quickly. The food is amazing, so full of flavour. The chocolate tasting plate was one of the favourites from our holiday. There was a good atmosphere in the place too.

The bar food menu is the same as in the superb restaurant upstairs but slightly more limited - so you are getting a top class meal for the price of good quality bar food. Incredibly tasty and beautifully presented. Its worth a stop.
